Re: The new constitutional vote and the social crisis

Under obligatory voting as it will likely be in Chile soon, are you allowed to turn up to vote and write "no-one" or spoil the ballot paper. Or are you forced to vote for a specific person or party? I don't think I agree with the idea of obligatory voting. You may be forcing the people who don't car...

Confused traveller, that sounds like a pretty accurate description of Chile, I'm glad you had a cool trip.

none of the prices are crazy high. i would say prices are about 20 to 30% under normal.
Thanks for keeping us up to date. Any idea how these prices translate to prices of cars at dealers and private sales. Perhaps if auction prices are 20%+ lower, other prices might be more like 10% lower (??).

I have seen CS gas grenades being thrown at protestors every day for a month close to Parque Florestal.
Are they throwing them at peaceful protesting peacefully?

Re: Opening A Bank Account

When I opened the account at Banco de Chile, they tried to get me to add a paid monthly insurance against cybersecurity issues and so on, which I declined, even though she pushed it quite hard (presumably on commission). Is not having this security something I should be worried about? I'm assuming i...

Re: Chile Political and Social Crisis 2019

I think the issue here is that what mem says is socialism is actually correct according to some, perhaps many, definitions of it. But in practice "socialists" like Bernie Sanders and Jeremy Corbyn, even if they call themselves such (or more commonly accept the labelling others try to give them) are ...

I get the feeling that el que baila pasa has been on the way down for a while. The country does have some ability to reflect on these things and show some sanity.

Re: Chile Political and Social Crisis 2019

so how much will the country save by cutting out the extra wankers in congress? over 5 billion dollars. I like the idea of making Congress literally pay out of their own pocket for the "social reform". here is the proposals to trim congress down to size, and will probably go along way to getting th...

Re: Chile Political and Social Crisis 2019

From abroad it seems like a lot of the disturbances are finally calming down a bit. Is that true? Are normal citizens exhausted by it all now? In the last two weeks, the disturbances have been lower than before. It seems to me that there are less protests blocking roads, less very large protests, l...

Re: Isapre Prices

My understanding is that you're forced to stay until the last day of the next month because Isapre coverage usually begins 2 months after you sign for a new plan. In my case, I've switched from Cruz Blanca to Consalud on November. I've paid Cruz Blanca for both November and December, and Consalud w...
