Should Schools Charge Less for Now?

I've heard that some schools in our area are reducing their prices, although ours hasn't yet. A few thoughts: children already lost some classes in November and late October. This could be a more prolonged period this time. If the homeworking and remote teaching is good enough that the children lear...

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

The other thing about scandinavians is that due to the cold and for cultural reasons some of them voluntarily lockdown across the whole winter anyway. They go back and forth to work each day but they don't go out in the streets much in winter. Shopping, bars, restaurants, is all reduced. They just l...

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

This is a good discussion. We do need to consider isolation suicides, domestic abuse victims, and so on. I suspect that in Scandinavian and some other European countries there is a greater sense of civic responsibility so that you can trust the people to make their own judgements to an extent, and t...

Re: Chilean Borders To close Wednesday, March 18th

The Chilean government has announced the closure of all international borders, air sea, and land starting on Wednesday March 18th, for 15 days. They will then reevaluate and extend as needed. Only Chilean citizens and residents will be allowed to enter, and even those categories will have a 14 day ...

Re: EAT THE RICH!!!

"eat the rich" I thought it would be your new theory to sort out social unrest in Chile. Unfortunately, it has a fatal flaw which is that there are not enough rich in Chile to keep the poor well fed.

Re: Chilean Borders To close Wednesday, March 18th

I came through Santiago airport today. I live in Chile but went to UK/Europe for a long trip from December to today. The British Airways flight was 90% full in the cheapest seats, the economy plus was about 10% full. I had a look in business class, don't think there was anyone there. I guess the che...

Re: Building house in Chile the "gringo" way

The payback period on installing insulation can often be really low - a couple of years in some cases. Give it 10 years and you might make 5x the money back. Majority of houses in the world are probably under insulated. So over insulting vs the norm might make sense. True passive house standards in ...

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

I think in very very roughly one month (so could be 3 weeks or 6) we will start to have answers (at the very least for the developed world including China and Chile in that) to questions like how many will die, how long will this last, and how many people have or have had the virus. By around then t...

"The Bureau of Labor Statistics will publish on April 3 its first estimate of March unemployment. You might expect that this official report will finally offer clarity on the economic picture in the U.S. Don’t get your hopes up. According to the Cornell economist Erica Groshen, the report will tell ...
