Re: Where to buy in Chile? HELP!!

I don't like to talk politics or about money, but I have to beg. Obama will be re-elected, and one of the reasons I seek a new home in Chile. I need help from this board more than ever. Hopefully, this board is full of republicans. I hope you're not operating under a misconception about Chilean pol...

Re: four more years of hope and change...?

Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard.

No one in this world has ever lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the great masses of the plain people. Nor has anyone ever lost public office thereby.

Re: I made it to Chile! Now what?

..... Apartments, Apartments, Apartments. There're going up everywhere. Tomas, since you're here! :-) Can you comment on HotForChile's observation? Or perhaps admin can also. Why all the apartments? Is it Chile's way of saying, "recession, what recession?" Copper money? Is it in anticipation of imm...

Re: Radio Silence

To anyone who has not read it I can highly recommend Confessions of St. Augustine. It's not a book to be read quickly, it's like a fine wine. Poor analogy that, but I've stared off into the distance for long periods of time contemplating some of the things he said.

Re: The "future of Chile"?

Not at all. Mining is playing less and less of a role in the economy. Chile will be leading science, high-tech and manufacturing superpower in the next 10-15 years. Living standards of people in Chile will surpass those in USA and Europe. Worldwide? Put down the crack pipe, son. South America-wide?...

Re: Why Chile so awful and attractive for immigrants?

A few thoughts on this anyway. Why is it so attractive? Because people project a lot of their own dreams on it. Easy to do if you're somewhere you don't want to be, or think you could have a better life somewhere else. A lot of people doing that these days. They see pictures on the Internet and read...

Re: 22 yr old excited to start business in Chile, saying Hi

Considering that Chile has shortage of doctors specialists, while Serbia has shortage of jobs, maybe better idea would be to bring some of unemployed Serbian doctors to Chile. What Bob said. Be a head-hunter for doctors. That may be an angle where you actually could get some $$ out of the Chilean Gov...

Re: Window Screens

OK gringos sitting at your computer in Keokuk or Huntsville or Tallahasse who want to move to "paradise" and start a Eco-Tourism (ROTFL) business and live happily ever after, here is a business idea that is so OBVIOUS and needed. And you know what? You need to jump on it with both feet, hard. It's W...

Re: Blogger Coward

I was not so much upset over his writing per se (gag-worthy), as I was about the deletion of my comments. I think my main "botheration" with this guy is that he's a published author? Really? Someone who presents such superficial and innacurate and slanted information regarding Chile is a published a...

I read this guys article on his blog and was basically, underwhelmed. http://deanhenderson.wordpress.com/2012/04/16/poison-penguins-pinochet/ Obvious lefty slant, I have no problem with that really, it's not covert, but it's a weakly written whiney pansy-ass bit of fluff. It has a few observations t...

Re: Minimum Stair Width

There is actually a science to this. I don't remember where I read it but there is an optimum height of stairsteps from one to the next and width of each step from front to back and width of stairway passage, and degrees of angle, etc. It's been pretty much proven by use that if you use the correct ...
