OK. Thanks for clearing that up. Sounds like a pretty good system.

Besides the paper system with checks, what I find amazing is that you don't even have to be a citizen to (eventually) vote.

A permanent resident and naturalized citizen of developed nations block in future elections?

Just wanted to report that I finally show up as a GO for voting at servel.cl

Actually took 5 years plus 2 months or so since the time I received temporary residency.

Still prohibited from voting after 16 years, as an Official Resident... (also running into the UK time limit this year, though they are supposed to be abolishing it, so soon I will be unable to vote anywhere in the World!).

Dont understand that last post.

You have been a resident for at leadt 5 years, including temp residency?

If you dont show up, you need to contact your local voter registeration office to sort it out.

Even dead people with five years if residency are allowefd to vote (if they can scratch the paper).

Is there a new link for this? That one's broke, and everything's in Spanish.

Thanks, that one works. I'll have to try again tomorrow though, because the system's down.

It's just this perpetual diplomatic-type visa we have... Since you point out the Constitution article, I wonder which law should actually take precedence in theory, but we have a blanket prohibition from any involvement in local politics and I'm pretty sure voting isn't the done thing.

Thanks. But it looks like it's still down.

What message are you getting? If you are not yet eligible, you will get a message to try again later. How many years to the day has it been since the date you received your temporary stamp? Just tried both and they work for me, you must use a browser configured to allow the "I'm not a robot" test.
