Interesting article! No doubt California is a state of haves and have-nots (the legacy of almost 50 years of neoliberal economics). However, Hanson's simplistic cause and effect analysis is seriously lacking. BTW, I've always wondered why anyone would voluntarily live in Bakersfield or Fresno. This link (http://www.ppic.org/content/pubs/jtf/JT ... ndsJTF.pdf) provides more context to the crime statistics outlined in Hanson's article.

Moreover, Hanson's moral character judgement is clearly suspect. :)

Who knew that the difference between Republicans and Democrats is that Republicans believe people are fundamentally bad, while Democrats see people as fundamentally good?

Not really.

Your quote, derived from the statement by J. C. Watts, are patently false.
Why do you incessantly proliferate such bullshit?

I suspect J.C. Watts believes his statement to be true. I found that NYTimes article to be rather informative. The writer's postulation on red county vs. blue county was particularly interesting to me.

That J.C. Watts believes his statements to be true is irrelevant.
That you find it informative and interesting is irrelevant.
It is still BS, and are promulgating it.

It may be relevant to J.C. Watts' congregation, many of whom may also believe his statement to be true.
Perhaps that's because you are uncomfortable with some or all of the article's content? :)
What exactly is BS? That I found the contents of the article to be informative? The actual contents of the article (much of the narrative appears to be factual)? Question: Do you believe that the red county vs. blue county analogy is BS? If the answer is yes, then please explain your rationale.

The principal reason:
The Democrats do not 'believe' people are fundamentally good.
If they did, they would not attempt to force their agenda on others.

Yes, both parties feed at the same Wall Street lobbyists' trough. However, on the major economic issues their views are quite divergent, as pointed out in today's NYTimes opinion piece by Paul Krugman. Looks like we're headed back to Reagan-era voodoo economics again "big time". May the deficits pile up while the wealth and income inequalities widen.
