Things I Wish I Had Better Planned Before Moving

Gripes and complaints about Chile. What does not kill you, only makes you stronger. Help make Chile a better place, and help other gringos avoid problems and mistakes.

yea, I'll have to get my wife to put this on the article list soon.

The big issue in the Chilean law is the idea of the say the father leaving the kids homeless and penniless. This happens all the time in say the States, where a bad night at the dinner table and the family cat ends up with everything.

Same in the UK, Battersea Dog's Home (it used to be the biggest kennel in London for strays) seemed to derive most of their upkeep from bequest.
All the more reason for the kids to pass the butter when asked.

You guys have the floor. What do you wish you had done differently when you landed in Chile?

I wish we had investigated a better debit/credit card with a clearer understanding of fees and charges, clearly pinned down our bank as to accessing and moving money, and planned a budget. We also wish that we had COMPLETELY wrapped up our property issues and other business in our former country...it is frustrating, complex and a royal pain to -as Octavers mentioned - find a fax, copy documents, get notarized, send originals, to wrap up loose ends.

I think that's it.
