No the LA area could use it. We were recently in the public hospital, and although it did have the basic facilities, it still left a lot to be desired.
Monitoring equipment was almost none existent. Most cheap cell phones with a bit of rewiring would do better than what we saw.
I also found the management of the hospital to be none existent. The halls were dirty dirty. Bleach is cheap, and it does not take a PH.D to either use it or supervise the people to use it. Being under funded is one thing, being poorly managed is a whole different thing.
The doctors where good however, if a bit overworked. There were two heart specialist, but both were in Santiago at conference when we were there because a family member had a heart problem.
They are slated however to build a new hospital next year, and tear down the old one.
I still have to say the wait to see a doctor was about 1 to 2 mins. Never seen a doctor in the States that fast.
