Chile Wiki Wiki Wiki

We have a Chile Wiki!!!!

You can get to the Chile Wiki at:

HELP THE CHILE WIKI GROW!!!!

I would just like to put out a call and invitation for everyone to pitch in to help collect and sort some of the good info on the forum, and formalize it in to the Chile Wiki so that it is better organized and easier to find for everyone. If each member would just pitch in and do say one posting a week, the wiki will keep on growing at a fairly good clip. Even if you just want to step in and help clean it or add a line or two to existing posts, the wiki will keep on improving.

We want the wiki to be a long term archive of important and developing information for living in Chile. We want to collect together the best nuggets and information from the forum, and formalize them in to the wiki.

To become an editor and adding new content:

USERS WITH AT LEAST 25 POSTS CAN BECOME EDITORS OF THE WIKI

Everyone is welcome to browse however.

To get an account to edit the Chile Wiki:

1. If you have 25 posts, you can go to the "User Groups" button in your "User Control Panel" of the forum and request that you be added to the chilewiki group. It is next to the button you use to post PM messages to other members.

2. I will then approve the addition to the chilewiki editor group when I get a sec.

3. After that, you can log in to the chilewiki using your forum user name and password and start contributing.

For those with less than 25 posts, please PM me if you are super impatient to get started. I believe however I am going to hold the line to users with at least 25 posts in the interest of keeping everything organized for now and the spammers out of the wiki.

Please place all discussion about administrating the wiki here, questions, and suggestions.

There is a lot of work to be done to turn it in to a proper wiki about Chile such as adding help guides, content guides, basic etiquette, and so on.

WIKI AWAY!

chile wiki

Anyone that knows there way around using wiki, like wikipedia, we could use some help building a help section of the wiki.

The Chile wiki works exactly the same as wikipedia. I will bring in some of their basic help type stuff, but I figure we are going to also need some customized stuff to better guide the new users to wiki software.

Charles,

I vote for health insurance and health care.

When am I too old to get health insurance?

What will it exclude?

Quality of health care?

Gracias,

Gammel

25 posts

Postby admin on Mon Aug 20, 2007 11:44 pm

25 posts to be a wiki editor now.

I am going to open the wiki now to users with 25 Posts in hopes of at least getting a few spammers to work on the wiki.

I think 25 is a good number. It means that any spammer that wants to edit the wiki that bad is working way too hard. It also gets new users to spend a little time getting to know the forum.

I got some basic categories set in the wiki. The pages still need to be created. We can add more as we go along. I am hoping that the topics, pages, and categories will just kind of naturally develop as they are created. This kind of the wonders of wiki software. A wiki should be well suited to our forum culture in the way our forum threads just kind of wonder around from topic to topic.

Dear Charles,

Can I view your Chile Wiki? I tried to get on, but my Chile Forum username and password do not work with the sign on for it. What's up?

Vicki L.

p.s. I also have a completely edited, corrected and expanded "Postcards from Futaleufu".

Your in Vicki. I just added you to the chilewiki editor group. Let me know if you have any problems.

You and helibel are the first members of the Chilewiki. If we all start getting in to it, perhaps we can get some of the other members enthusiasm for the wiki going.

Just takes a steady trickle to break the dam. We don't need even need great writers, or people that like to write a lot. A few sentences now and again, a word correction here and there, will get the Chile wiki building fast if everyone does it once in a while.

That is more or less how the forum got started.

yippyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

We have our first chile wiki post. Vicky I'll even buy you a Cristal beer next time you are in town.

I moved your post in to a futa town section so we can get a bit more deapth and breath to the wiki.

I hope everyone will jump in with a posting about the places they know the best in Chile.

By the way, on the chilewiki in order to create a new page, you just have to create a link like this:

[Futaleufu]
with the word you want to be the title of the page inside the square brackets. A page with that title will be automatically created.

In the same way, if you want to link from one page to the next, you simply have to do the same with the title in the brackets if the page already exist.

It is really easy, once you get the hang of it.

Charles, can you add a main section from the home page about Transportation? I'd like to start posting notes about how to buy a car, bus companies and their schedules...

execllent section!

Postby mlightheart on Thu Sep 20, 2007 12:19 pm

ot,

That would would be an excellent section. We will be needing to catch a bus (a comfortable one) from Valparaiso/Santiago to Temuco this November.

Charles, how about another section on staying connected with folks/business back home? Mail forwarding, IP phone, etc. Staying connected while in Chile. A title something like that.

I saw the following line in the Banking, credit, taxes, and other money matters.

"At this time one, (1) U.F. is equal to roughly 19 thousand US dollars."

Since I don't have access maybe somebody can change this.
