Chile Wiki

Postby admin on Mon Oct 01, 2007 2:19 am

Say, the wiki is starting to take shape. Any chance we can recruit some members to get involved in posting.

I started realizing there is so much basic information about Chile that just gets passed over, or taken for granted by us that are here or have been here, but for a first time person arriving in the country is critical.

For example, I just realized that in all my web sites I have never posted the emergency numbers for Chile. So, I did it under health and security issues. I think I have never found the right place for it to fit, and not get lost.

Little things like that, one sentence at at time, we will have the super wiki.

I just noticed we are number two already for "chile wiki" in google, and otraver's site is number three just for talking about the chile wiki. A couple of weeks ago there was nothing but wikipedia. With a little work we might even be able to knock them off the top (not sure about that, but worth a try).

Wiki

Postby Laura55llc on Mon Oct 01, 2007 12:05 pm

Ah, a challenge.

I would like to see(maybe under the new shopping links) some links for online shopping venues that ship to Chile. I haven't done any of that and don't forsee doing much in the future(shipping is pricey) but places that ship to Chile in an emergency seems helpful.

So, if people could add to the Wiki or post here so we can transfer the info, I'd like to have the links handy for future use.

amazon.com will do books

If you go through the mail boxes however, you should be able to get most anything.

The flood gates have seemed to opened on the chile wiki.

Yes, it is easy to fill in a line here or there. Since food in Chile is our most popular thread to date, could we open something on Wiki? Maybe Eating in Chile and we could include something on the open air markets as well as restaurants, recipes, hard to find ingredients, prices...boggles the mind

Hmph! After my last outing to Amazon I looked that the makeup of the bill and it seemed to me that Amazon do postage, not books

About the wiki, if there's no immediate deadline I could do: mobile phones in Chile, maybe a job site resource for people who'd like to work here (got lots of links, should be easy), and something about the Llifen area (I've spent a few summers there). I'm in two minds about whether I should offer to contribute something about driving in Chile. It would be dark and ironic

I think I got my 25 posts sometime over the weekend.

great. I will open some new topic sections in the wiki as soon as I get a min.

Please if you can find an existing section, and then just create a new page, that would give the wiki some depth and breath.

For example the car thing under travel, with a new page just about driving in Chile might better flush out that section with sub pages.

I think food deserves its own category.

Education

Postby Putenio on Sun Oct 07, 2007 2:06 am

Since the "moving family to chile" thread brought up the issue of schools, perhaps a section on education would be appropriate - levels like:

Parvularia/Pre-Kinder
Enseñanza Básica/Kinder - 8th Grade
Secundaria/9th-12th Grade
Institutos/Post-Secondary Technical Schools
Subcategory: English Language Institutes
Spanish Language Institutes
Cross-reference to employment (Title, degree, certificate, pay)
Universidades/Universities
Subcategory: Study Abroad Exchanges

It may grow from there :)

The Chile wiki is growing. I like how members have grabbed a couple of subjects and started hacking away. We could use some more.

I added the RSS feed of recent changes to the front of allchile.net home page, along with a feed of the most recent posts in the forum.
