If you pay the 9 percent import duty plus VAT for you RV, you should be able to keep it for more than 90 days. As long as you stay. But keep all receipts.

mlightheart,

I did read up on that with TomBrad2 and you, but no conclusions were made. I can hardly base the decision of importing an $60K US RV based on these conclusions. I suppose a legal entity will have to intervene, such as Allsouthchile.com provides. Admin?
We are looking for a Kei Truck. It's a small, farm truck overseas, and I have an older one in the USA. Would love to bring, but not a new vehicle.
9 percent and VAT means 9% of the total purchase price + the VAT, which I am not sure about, only that 19% seems to be an arrived at percentage total.

In light of all this, it means I need serious help in getting these things in, and looks like I am in for the 30 hour drive from Inquique down to Santiago. Does anyone know if all the government offices for getting tourist visa, and paying VAT, and getting a RUT/RUN are all in the area of Inquique/Arica? How about Futaleufu, and it's tax free/import status?

thanks, G

Re: Syrup and bacon

hola?!,
something like that, to you Laura55llc. Syrup made from sugar? Hope not HFCS (reads High Fructose Corn Syrup.) The real stuff is so....oh, words aren't sufficient. Plus healthy. A little of that and cayenne pepper, oh my! Great detoxifier, weight loss, and down right mouth watering.(and eye watering.) Whoooeee! That's Texan, which I am not.

I suppose bacon is high because Chileans portions are smaller, plus the cost of chems to treat, and cure. Then you take into account that it's most likely foreigners who eat it, and you get the picture. Pure speculation, though, not being in country, today.

As to appliances without moving parts, that would limit to digital equipment/computers sans the fan. Small form factor PCs that run with alternative colling systems.
At any rate, I count the US as having one of the "dirty-est" electric distribution methods currently available. Our appliances, electronics and electrical doohickeys all end up being surge suppressors for the utility generation companies. They burn out early, due to peak and demand times, where utilities, like water lines, slam voltage down the lines, as peaks and demands increase. This creates surges, and leads to the eventual demise of your said electrical doohickey, because the engineer didn't specify a voltage regulator in said doohickeys construction, in an effort to be the most competitive/least expensive/hence desirable to price conscious shoppers. Anyone with an ear for music, knows or will find out they have to filter their electric in order to clean it up, and eliminate the "noise" created. Therefore, I almost always run everything I own through a surge suppressor at the least, in an effort to keep it as long as I can.
I think too much credit is being given to a voltage converter/downgrader, and I guess I will bring surge suppressors to mount into the converters to try and limit voltage irregularities that will likely occur in this rapidly expanding country as I try and use 110V.
