yea, that foreign connection is the problem for most of us. VTR has a strange definition of what the internet is. They have told me before that as long as you have your speed on there network, then you got what you payed for.

Still not showing any change in Temuco. However I do have to say my VTR connection seems to be running more consistently around the speeds I contracted.

For me and my business on the radio it is the upload that is the most important and I have to say Chile is the worst for upload speed. I am lucky to get 300kbps. For streaming radio you need a minimum of 128kbps. And considering we do a lot of uploading of files, podcasts and client commercials the slow upload speeds in Chile really hamper us at times.

Also a little note, being Language challenged I tend to walk in tot he VTR office and request to speak to someone in English. Usually the people that speak English in these companies have a little higher positions then the normal call center non helpful people (you know who I am talking about). And because these people generally have higher positions they can do more for me.

Several times I have spoken with the General Managers secretary about problems and funny they get fixed fairly quickly. Once my internet connection, and TV went down I called Natalie (yes we are on a first name basis now) and within 4 hours I actually had 3 VTR trucks at my house with 5 guys all trying to figure out what happen. As it turns out a neighbor was trying to steal cable which killed our connection.

It works at most medium to big companies, they generally have a few people who have learned English fairly well in positions that can really help you. So ask for someone that speaks English :) You never know you might just get better service.

Cheers

You all might have noticed how the front page has not been updated tonight. That was because I lost both connections in the middle of doing the update.

yea, my internet in Temuco has been really great since they started "improving" their network on both VTR and telefonica.\ My connections have been up, down, and funky for a week. I even lost my phone service and security alarm tonight (security systems broadcast over the phone line). I finally reset the VTR box and got some sort of connection, but not much. Not what I would call an improvement. The marketing departments strike again. Their automated phone calls seem to get through reminding me how good my bandwidth is going to be with out a problem. I wonder what ISP they are using. I would like to sign up, it is definitly not telefonica or VTR because they have crystal clear VOIP service.

Yea, I am afraid that all they did was rob our bandwidth in Temuco and give it to you in Valpo (not like I had a lot to start with).

GIVE ME BACK MY BANDWIDTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PDT_Armataz_01_41

Really it is not so much a speed or bandwidth issue, as just staying connected. Lot of dropped connections, and rebooting of boxes.

We have a wireless router (Netgear) and I was wondering if we will be needing some sort of adapter (50 HTZ) power supply to make our laptops and pc to work in Chile? Our time is getting very close for our departure and we don't want to get there having a panic attack and not be able to stay connected!!

all your equipment should have an auto converter, or a switch to change to 220. The back of your desktop should have a little switch on the power supply. Other than that you just need to change your plugs so they fit in 220 socket. If you look on your power supplies and the sticker says something like 110-220 you are good to go, and just need to change your plug to fit in the socket.
