*patting your back gently* You'll get over it. :D

What actually made this victory so precious was the condescending attitude of Swedes towards Finns during the tournament.

Lucky you!
But be careful with the hooligans, maybe it is a good idea to go with a chilean buddy to see the game, to be safe.
Most probably they will be reselling tickets near the stadium, your fella might get a not-so-over-priced one :)

I would love to hear how the match went, I won't even get to see it online :(

In the meanwhile in Spain, where people have been demonstrating for days now, live video feed:

Europe is boiling everywhere... Almost 50 per cent of the young Spaniards are unemployed and they are having an election tomorrow (if I remember correctly). So far the demonstrations have been peaceful.

Back at Chile forum!

Yesterday I sent an email to 121 members of parliament requesting them to vote against the Portugal bailout tomorrow. Well, you gotta try! Curiously enough, it was the party leaders who promptly replied.

But the question of today is: is the tap water drinkable in Chile, or do you drink bottled water? The issue of water has been something cooking in my mind for years now.

Depends on the tap.

Municipal tap water usually meets the established standards. But there are also sometimes outbreaks of Giardiasis, from Giardia lamblia which is usually carried in the water as well as other means (e.g., dogs - Giardia protozoa carried in more than 20 percent of Santiago dogs observed in studies). Giardiasis even affects a significant number of children in large cities such as Santiago which presumably have well monitored water supplies though not all infections come from the water supply. Giardia are very resistant to chlorine and UV treatment and physical barrier filtration is often needed to keep them out of tap water.

In some places, if you store municipal water for a while in a clean container, you can see the residue, as in this picture. This residue is from the municipal tap water and not the container.

So most of the time we drink bottled water.

That's a lot of residue!

Okay, I start cooking my water project for Chile. I learnt some days ago that Coca-Cola and Nestlé have invested in a Finnish water company and they are flying bottled water to China; it's time to fight back - I do dislike multinationals.
Thanks, Px and guys! :D

If some multinational were bottling water in Chile for export, the people would be rioting in the streets, carrying pancartas that would say Chilean Water For Chileans !

I seem to recall that the residue we see in municipal water here is mostly calcium carbonate.

As for the water, the whole scheme was conducted behind the scenes last year. People still don't know that Coca-Cola and Nestlé are here, let alone that they are exporting Finnish water to China. Waking up to the reality will hurt big time.

BTW, I pissed off a National Coalition party's MP two days ago by introducing him my idea of a parallel future for Finland, called Impivaara. It is a self-sustained model of living, much like the ecovillages around the world, but we would also provide local Home Guard and function as part of a decentralized crisis management system. 8)
Some MPs are all for selling out everything: economics, decision making, natural resources, the culture, even the people. That's why I focus on Impivaara, to stir the water by planning on how to keep the countryside alive and thriving. :D

The government of Greece accepted today the bail-out package. It is more like a riot in Athens now. Live video feed:
