Or does he mean default, as in default on a payment? An overdraft, perhaps? That would make some sense. As in, "If you don't deposit money in my account, the online banking site will show a default (overdraft)?

I found this which means overdrawn, "tener la cuenta en descubierto". If you are right, Vicki, this could be it. I guess I'll find out when the members who always have the answers come on :) Where is Gloria?

It occurs to me that a good English-Spanish dictionary should be near the top of the list of those items in the What should I bring with me?? thread.

I don’t understand what "you need to send any amount of money so the computer Defaults it" means, either. You cannot just translate a single word and hope to come up with the right meaning. First of all, if you use the words “computer” and “default” together these days, most semi-computer-literate people will understand something completely different from anything having to do with money.

There are many ways of saying, “Your account will be overdrawn,” from vas a pedir más plata de la que tienes en el banco to la cuenta queda al descubierto, but anybody in a Spanish-speaking country/society who knows a little about banking will understand you if you say la cuenta entra en débito.

BTW, I used to buy nitric acid at a drug store in South America, and I’m talking about one in a small town. I sometimes was amazed that they would have anything I asked for. Sulfur and potassium nitrate were easy to find during the holiday season.

I totally agree with EZ.He should be more specific or just say...." viejos, no sean cagones, mándenme más plata" ....I can assure you they would understand perfectly!

I'm sorry about this confusion, two beers made me dizzy  this has to do with Taxes and the IRS. What my parents wanted to do was to lower the monthly payment for the IRS, but they couldn't do that because the computer already "Defaulted" the first payments to $500. My parents wanted to lower it to $300, so the nice lady (she was rude as hell), told me that they have to send in a different amount, in order for the computer to default that amount because they can't do it manually, since the computer locks it in or whatever. :P

Why is the IRS so rude???

The IRS is rude because the people that they audit are much more rude to them. Probably with good reason, I hear it's a nightmare. The IRS is a fairly hated bureaucracy in the US (taxes).

They are also government employees who can be rude if they want. Some people just suck. :|

I assume that you write of the Chilean equivalent of the Internal Revenue Service, "Ignite". I've worked with the I.R.S. for decades -- or, at times, against them, as both a taxpayer and an attorney. I've never found the Service or its employees to be rude.

Stubborn or ignorant, perhaps, but not rude.

LOW FLYING PLANE OVER VINA

Postby Tonkinese » Thu Nov 26, 2009 9:42 pm

Heres a question for any aviation fans. Anybody see the very low flying small plane today at 6pm weaving in and out of the buildings of vina.It was heading straight for my front room as i live on the top floors in a tall building, and then up clearing by only 50 meters. Question...how does he get to log a flight plan like that ,including low on the river bed at one time for a total of 3 loops around the city. Old looking plane with classic engine , probably why it was leaving a spray or smoke trail. Any people living in the area notice it too.
Managed to get a quick photo as it left. check pic.

It's been a while and the hectic continues on the political sector of Finland. We still don't have a new government, it is very tough to establish one when parties are ideologically and by their values far apart. At the moment True Finns have placed themselves on opposition and if the person nominated to form the government (leader of the biggest party) fails, the leader of the second biggest takes over. If that person also fails, then it will be the True Finns to form the government. In any case, the situation evolves daily.

I want to really thank you, guys, all of you.
This was the forum that taught me a lot about sarcasm and trolling and how to deal with it. In the Finnish forum where I am now, Homma (which is the colloquial expression for job), the rate of sarcasm is tenfold as compared to Chile Forum. You made me endure and use my sisu.
Several members of the parliament are also members of the Homma forum and we get direct information from the parliament, something unthinkable a few years ago.
We also welcome English speaking people to join us, we are not a "secret society" but the contrary. We want open and honest communication to clear misunderstandings.
Here is a thread that the "fiercely feared" immigration critical Jussi Halla-aho started yesterday.

The Wall Street Journal published Timo Soini's article a couple of days ago. Then, a day after publishing, the article was edited into a much gentler form by removing the sharpest comments.
If you are interested in what this "nazi" leader actually says, the original text is here:

I am sorry to read here that there have been riots in Chile but that always happens when people resort to using other means to resolve issues than words.

Now I go and read some more.
