New user here, though a resident of Chile for about a year. I've used the forums to help navigate the visa process and hope that I've got some experience living in country to give back. My sinister ulterior motive is keeping an eye out for gringos in need of jobs for the startup where I'm working

We are moving to Chile for 10 months as part of my husband's PHD program with University of Michigan. We have two children, age 2 and 5 and we will be staying in Barrio Brazil while we look for a more permanent place.

I've been reading and checking this website for a long time but, just recently, decided to join it. My hubby and I have decided to move to Chile; this decision has been on our minds for a long time but, finally, we are in a position to move on with our lives. Currently, we are living in Northern VA.

We think La Serena would be a good fit for us; we have visited and checked it out. We will check also Con-Con, Algarrobo and the coastal area from Valpo to La Serena.
We would like to rent a furnished place, preferably a house; not sure about an appartment for I'm afraid of earthquakes otherwise 1st Floor only. If you know of a real estate agent that we can deal directly, I would greatly appreciate any info.

I know Summer is approaching fast and not the best time for annual rentals commitments but any info is welcome.

My name is Daniel, I currently live in the United States. I learned Spanish in Argentina but I know from first hand experience that Chilean Spanish is different and I'm still trying to get a hang of it. I have been 2 Chile twice now. Once in May of 2007 and I just got back from spending a couple of weeks there in September of 2012. I have some Chilean friends that I made in college and I've always been able to stay for free when I've visited.
I'm about 99% sure about my decision to move there now. I plan on doing it within the 6 month - 1 year time range. I know that I can't stay for free with friends if I plan on living there permanently. I'm trying to plan everything out well so I don't regret my decision. I'm hoping I can find lots of helpful information in this forum.
