airport transport

Postby tharrson » Fri Feb 10, 2012 12:07 am

I will be arriving in Santiago airport at about midnight next Wednesday and would not like to struggle with the cabbies. Can anyone recommend a reliable airport transport service to meet me and take me to the W hotel?

Thanks,
Ted

Did you confirm that your hotel does not have its own pickup service?

Actually, more a TripAdvisor question than an expat board question.

At that hour, I would solely rely on the official cab service which can be contracted right before you leave customs and even after at the nearby desks in the public terminal if you don't mind wading through aggressive taxi drivers.

Should be an equivalent of $35 USD mas o menos.

Go to the transvip, or Taxi Oficial Counter,

Purchase your ticket,

go outside with your ticket head towards the new looking cabs lined up out front, someone there will help you into the official cab or transvip what ever you choose, the people who help are usually talking with each other smoking :) but they are dressed in shirts and pants not dodgy looking!

Nice and easy!

about $35 to 40 US

W charges $70 for this service. That struck me as a bit expensive since last time we took a cab and they charged us about $30. Reason I'm asking about reliable pickup is that last time we had arranged for a pickup and they never showed. Plus the cab we took didn't know where to take us and we wandered around Santiago for an hour before finding the right hotel.
BTW our room rate at the W is $220.
Thanks to all for the tips.

Problem at that hour in my limited experience was that both Tur and TransVIP sucked as both were in the process of counting the caja. The fact that people were standing there waiting to give them business did not concern any of the employees. We ended up taking an official cab.

Official taxis are always ready to go.

The only issue I have, late in the evening, is TransVIP doesn't want to run a near empty Van so wait for more people, which isn't hours but can be 30-40 minutes, I don't think its a big deal as their service for 7am flights out is excellent, at my place waiting at 5am.

Transvip is an official taxi company, when your paying $6,000 pesos opposed to $15,000 pesos, solely on the basis your sharing a large modern minibus, you kind of have to expect to wait sometimes. Generally though I have landed both morning time and around 10pm, at taxis for 11pm and found it to be fairly busy. Saying they were more busy counting their money, you clearly haven't met many Chile buisinesses, relax and go with it.

If you don't want to wait book a transfer through the hotels or airlines travel companies before flying, that is what I used to do, large vehicle with blacked out window for one person, turned out was a waste of money once I realised your average local didn't really care if your a gringo here, its not like Brazil.

I'm sorry but you weren't there. We waited nearly 40 minutes with no attention from the employees at either desk. They were in the process of changing the caja and customers were standing around.

At that hour, with no pre-reserved bargain place to stay in Centro F*** "RELAX AND GO WITH IT."
