I like.... the way that Chile gets along so blissfully with its several neighbour nations, a model of perennial and perfect harmony, even going so far as to share a common fence.

Ah, come on. Only down side was almost getting robbed by a pincer movement staged in one dodgy street we wandered on to, with one reptile approaching from the front clicking his mouth to signal to his two fellow velicoraptors hiding in a side alley. Luckily, we spotted the ruse in time and hotfotted it out of their range.

The other disappointment was the atrocious food served in the restaurant built over a pier, which looks great from the outside.

You have done well, Grasshopper, for the forces of Evil have gathered strength of late in that dark and foul town, since the renaming of one of its principal thoroughfares to that of a former Prince of Chilean Darkness, Salvador Allende. Now it is a place where even the velociraptors often fear to tread, or whatever it is that velociraptors do to get around.

Atrocious food? Well, that's just Chile.

I suppose we don't really get a vote on the country having only spent 21 days in the North of the Patagonia. We went out of our way to meet Chilenos in remote places and found the people to be very helpful (except for giving directions) and friendly. One family we met had us over for dinner and took us sight seeing and still remain as Skype buddies. Not spending much time in big cities we may have been spared some of the down sides people have spoken of here. We live on the beautiful Oregon coast and found much of the same beauty in Chile, even the Rhododendrons were in bloom! My wife is not so sure, but I would move there as soon as the container is packed. Pisco sours are yet another little bonus!

This was exceptionally bad. Half-cooked meat (or was it rotten?). Cut potato slices deep fried in out-of-date oil.

I wouldn't mind but the décor was second to none.

Had vastly superior food in the nearby unpretentious locale The Dresden.

yes, the rhody's are nice to see...

color-splashed lupine~landscapes, in a patagonian spring!

while we are delving into floral "likes" --->
as we go spring-time wandering on remote rural roads ...
we see wonderfully widespread chilean thistles...
ok, the horses~cows~sheep may not be fond of them...
but the beez sure "like" them (when it comes to feeding time!)

ok, ok... switch to fauna "likes"
how about the beez we see in chile?
CCD seems not to have affected the apian populations here?
(yet? - at least from what we have seen?)
so yes - we quite "like" seeing lots of beez in chile
and besides thistles, they enjoy tasting chilean chilco!

well, as we have switched now from flora to fauna "likes"...
we "like" seeing lots of very contented sheep in chile!
excellent grazing, an epic view, cozy shelter, no nasty predators...
if you were a sheep - wouldn't you be in sheep heaven!

On the subject of the lupinos in the patagonia, there is no argument.

Strange thing is, they're exotics. But they are everywhere, it seems. And that is a Good Thing.

but, did you know - fwiw...
The name 'Lupin' derives from the Latin word lupinus (meaning wolf), and was given with regard to the fact that many found that the plant has a tendency to ravage the land on which it grows.
thus, although we all might certainly enjoy the chilean version...
somebody, somewhere, didn't (doesn't?) think very highly of them?

I like.... the old patagonian estancia buildings, many of them from over 100 years ago.

Some of them still working estancias. I have had the good fortune of showing up at a comedor at an estancia in Tierra del Fuego, and offered a hot meal on a cold riding day.
