what to buy instead of cement or pasta muro?

Postby Groschi » Fri Jan 27, 2012 6:21 pm

I am looking for something in between cement and pasta muro.
I am thinking of a bag the size of a bag of cement, a bag with some white stuff that is just looking for some water and nothing else.
Back home I know exactly what to buy, but here ............????
Indoor use.
We will be in Sodimac again next week and maybe you can recomend something.

Thanks from Pisco Elqui,

Perhaps cement mixed with sand to small pee size gravel.

What exactly are you doing with it?

After putting some PVC water pipes into the wall to give the second bathroom a shower the kitchen wall doesn't look that nice anymore. :-)
If I use the small bags of pasta muro it will take me for ever and I will spend a fortune on those 30 bags that I will need.
If I would use cement I would still have to "import" the sand from Vicuña.

Pasta muro is also sold in the 19 litre tins or baldes that weigh about 29 kg. See Sodimac. But you may need more than pasta muro -- perhaps the equivalent of some mesh tape.

What about "yeso" (plaster)? That's what our maestros used to fill in larger holes, and then pasta muro, out of the big buckets (it's pre mixed, no need to add water, about $15.000 from memory) to smooth the wall.

hm, sounds like something allot more expensive than what I would by back home.

its a gypsum based stuff and the 30kg bag costs about CLP 5000
but if there is nothing like that here available I must go for your recommendations.

yes, something like that, its just that I am looking for something that sticks 10 times better than pure yeso.
The kind of stuff where you leave the bucket just near the wall where you want it, go for a walk and when you come back its all done :-)
