... it might. Not so much in this case, though, as I was not originally looking for work opportunities via this forum; I wondered about any tips members might have had with the transition to Chile for the first time. Thanks anyway, patagoniax.

Since the subject of work opportunities has been raised, I'll note that I do have other skills, as most teachers likely do, but teaching English is what I expect to be my most marketable skill as a foreigner who is not fluent in Spanish. Should anyone have ideas for an intermediate Spanish-speaker who is good with her hands and successful in jobs working with people to get a job other than as an English teacher, please do let me know
