patagoniax - Thank you. It could have been a typo... or I might have been planning to go out and buy bars for my windows and doors as a hyper-vigilant safety measure. I'll never tell which is the case, but you're welcome to form your own conclusions about my meaning or intelligence or both. ;)

Nah, just kidding. It was a sad little typo.

Anyway, any other constructive criticisms come to mind?

...though it may reflect on skill level, professional attitude, level of education, etc. If a poster expects forum assistance related to work opportunities and then writes as though he or she attended public schools in the US, then some who might offer help may elect not to. A post is sometimes not unlike the cover letter for a CV, which might be best written when sober and wide awake. There is a time for Neanderthal banter, and a time for professional presentation.

a question might be begged?
in a battle of a neanderthal (with a very sharp wit)
with a velociraptor (with some very sharp teeth)
who might prevail - just wondering...?

Imagine that. Someone realistic AND with more class than snark

... it might. Not so much in this case, though, as I was not originally looking for work opportunities via this forum; I wondered about any tips members might have had with the transition to Chile for the first time. Thanks anyway, patagoniax.

If anyone has anything else to suggest, I look forward to it.

Since the subject of work opportunities has been raised, I'll note that I do have other skills, as most teachers likely do, but teaching English is what I expect to be my most marketable skill as a foreigner who is not fluent in Spanish. Should anyone have ideas for an intermediate Spanish-speaker who is good with her hands and successful in jobs working with people to get a job other than as an English teacher, please do let me know :)

Hey now, my public high school and university gave me a perfectly acceptable education, thank you very much. Living in suburbia might have something to do with that though...

I think I picked that up from an upper-division course on the use of irony in contemporary literature. Either that, or a résumé-preparation seminar for unemployable liberal-arts students.
