Re: cost to ready raw land for building la serena

Checked our land title and we do have water rights in the title. We bought the parcelas from a family member [my husbands's], so this may be why we have it in the title.

Does anyone have an idea of how much it will cost to drill and install the well? We are trying to guesstimate how much cash we will need to ready the property before we begin to build. Anyone with recent exp. would be appreciated.

And thanks to all for the great info. This site is fantastic

Soon to be Expat in Seattle

Cost of permit+drilling+casing+pump/hardware..... prices vary enormously and the work is often not done properly the first time. Nor the second time. Take that into account. The word "Chile" means "do it over."

And calculate contingencies for treatment of the water if it is poisonous, which is a very real possibility (just because neighbours have potable well water is no assurance that yours will be). And the chance of dry holes under all of your property. No assurance of water on the first punch. You may wish to contact potential service providers from where you are, beforehand, and discover their terms and warranties/guarantees, if any.

last check, down south here where you can dig a well with a shovel (likly not a good well), 125 meters will set you back about 10 million pesos to get going . drilling in the dessert?

that was from an old quote.

i just happen to have a civil engineer friend staying with me that is from la serena. will ask him when he gets back later.

Admin, would love to connect with your friend, if he is willing. My husband is a Chilean born, US citizen who is also a civil engineer here in Seattle, but he hasn't lived in Chile since the early 1970s so is out of touch with costs, etc.

All of this is very difficult from afar. Thanks for your help.

to give you an idea how much we paid for our well.
in the 5th region outside Casablanca we paid 1.300.000 for a good 15meter well, ready to install the pump.
Most of the people out there give you a price of 100.000 per meter.
We had the pump at 12 meters and there was lots of water.

Add another 150.000 for your deep well pump and another 500.000 for a separate pump with a 2500L tank and all your connections.

The fosa septica was with a few extra cameras 250.000 plus another 250.000 for the JCB to install everything.

125m sounds pretty hard core! It wouldn't even occur to me to drill at that height (but then I've never thought about it very hard). I'd think up here your chances of hitting a boulder would be close to 100% (having hit plenty digging and drilling horizontally at half a metre!).
