Looking for a new home for 2 loving dogs!

Postby Suzanne » Wed Dec 21, 2011 3:57 pm

Because of changing houses we need to give away our dogs: Doeke years old (Pit Bull with Labrador) and Boris 4 years old (German Shepherd). Both dogs have an extremely loving character, very cuddly, very agile and good with kids. These 2 dogs form part of our family and we hope to find a good new loving home for them.
Please send me an email in case you would like some more info and please pass it on.....

Yea, I am kind of (kind of) shopping for a German Sheppard mix, but have a very specific set of criteria I am looking for in a dog. I got one dog already that is super overly friendly, to the point of she does not understand why anyone would not love her (even people that hate dogs). Essentially she is a house dog, that goes with us everywhere. Very little street or campo sense to her.

Essentially I need a campo guard dog. So, I am looking for one that has a healthy distrust of humans built in and can take care of itself. A street dog and/or otherwise neglected animal.

here is the thing. I will never take a socially and psychologically healthy dog (or animal) and do what is needed to turn it in to a proper guard dog ( that essentially means isolating and psychologically abuse of an animal); but, I would take on a dog that has had a hard go of it and then treat them right to earn their loyalty. Which my tendency is to spoil my animals badly, so that is normally pretty easy trick. So I am looking for a dog that needs to be reformed, but not one that has been so abused or neglected that it is seriously damaged and needs months or years of work. Done that before with dogs (and cats), and it takes a lot of time and patience to bring them around to a point where you can live with them. Even then, they can surprise you years later at the wrong time (like old soldiers having flashbacks). I simply do not have the time for the full training show for a really damaged animal, but one that needs a little bit of work to get them to a socially acceptable level where they are happy hanging around our campo on their own, not going to kill the neighbors cows (or the neighbors), but still able to keep any neighbors with sticky fingers where they belong (off my property).

The other thing is I want a Sheppard MIX, as I have had the purebred Sheppard before and well one of the most heartbreaking events in my life was putting down my old purebred German Sheppard with all the aliments that they get (hip problems, cataracts, arthritis, and so on). Need something that has been genetically patched by mother nature, rather than the AKC.

Guess it is one of those things the dog will know me when he sees me. The best dogs have always found me. I suck at picking them.
