Likely moving to pisco elqui, looking for english speakers

Postby cosmodyseeus » Thu Dec 08, 2011 10:17 pm

So much to find out and I barely even know how to use a forum.... Anyone willing to give me a hand with any useful information on a blind relocation (don't tell me not to) is encouraged. Looking to find a rental property in Pisco elqui for at least a month to check things out, and possibly work but I understand that will come later. I am a poet, currently doing free form hip hop-like music (genres freak me out) that is like nothing else around for better or worse. Spent years on the road here at festivals vending food and gemstones, and just having all kinds of crazy (peaceful crazy) fun. I am rooted very deeply in the holistic healing community and prefer to be surrounded with that type of mindset, and I'm looking for similar people. It's a bit terrifying when your intuition tells you to take your family to a random country that you've never been to and speak very little of the native language, but as my lifestyle dictates that I follow my intuition 100 percent of the time I'm giving it at least a try (hearing from a large handfull of friends about how cool it is down there helps with the apprehension a bit lol). So basically..... I'm looking to meet cool people in that area or otherwise.

Looking forward to meeting y'all,
Pete

No transferable skills, no family fortune, no clean shirts, no understanding of the language or culture, coming to a place that is expensive to live in, with no reasonable hope of acquiring a residency visa or a job, dragging a dependent family in tow .... what do you suppose your chances are for lasting for 6 weeks?

You're right. I had forgotten about the fortunes being made every day in amateur hiphop music in the teeming cosmopolis of Upper Elqui.

Sounds (almost) like me :) I've been here just over 3 months, and I still haven't figured out the collectivos.

I'd say follow your intuition wherever it leads. Mine led me to La Serena/Coquimbo. And the next stop may be somewhere in the Elqui Valley (but I'm a bit concerned about the arsenic in the water problem). We may end up being neighbors (if I can solve the arsenic in the water problem).

Btw, a filter made with rusty nails apparently filters out arsenic.

BTW, A Rusty Nail is made by mixing Drambuie and Scotch.
Many prefer less Drambuie to decrease the sweetness of the drink.
Scotch has a fairly biting and hot taste that is counterbalanced by the honeyed, herbal overtones of the Drambuie.
A Rusty Nail can be served in an old-fashioned glass on the rocks, neat, or "up" in a stemmed glass.
It is most commonly served over ice.
A Rusty Nail served without ice is sometimes called a Straight Up Nail.
The Canadian version of the drink is called a "Donald Sutherland" and substitutes rye whiskey for Scotch.

I suppose that would work too. Not quite what I meant though.

Close, but your hiphop music skills suck and you brought along two clean shirts. Different game.
