I am looking for computer help

Postby slayerpunk » Sat Dec 03, 2011 1:10 pm

Hello my name is Mark and I am new to chile, new as in one year but I am having a problem with my laptop, just wondering if there is any tech whizzes on here or know of a good shop that is well priced to get it fixed either around algarrabo or in santiago central as I spend my weekends there normally with my lady friend....well here is my problem..I am currently using a HP pavilion dv9000 laptop, I am having problems with my speakers, they come off and on, more off of late to be honest, all drivers are up to date, I do not believe its a software issue, as the soundcard is attached to the motherboard, it may be a hardware issue with the sound card itself, but I believe as the speakers do work sometimes its more of a connection issue or possible a lose sodder, also when I look up the speakers on the computer it says no audio device is installed!!. So any suggestions as to where to go, if I was home in Canada this would cost me like a 6 pack to repair at many a friends house, I am just concerned that if I bring my laptop in, parts may be pilfered, granted this may be paranoia on my part, I just need some suggestions on where to go or who may be able to help!

The HP DV9000 suffered a bad design that accumulated heat around the upper left corner of the base where the video card and a speaker are located right above the CPU. As the result, sound and video can be unreliable when the CPU is hot. One way to work around this issue is to lift the backside (below the battery pack) up so that the fan can work more effectively with a better outflow of hot air to remove the heat on the CPU and its surrounding area.

You can try testing the problem by connecting the external speakers to the jack on the edge of the front side facing the user. If the external speakers are working fine, it means that the sound card is okay, just some bad connection between the sound card and the internal speakers. If the external speakers behave the same way as the internal speakers, then it is more likely that the sound card is bad.

when the external go off the internal go out as well, the light on the keyboard stays blue, cant go back to red and just tells me no audio device is installed, I was hoping it was a loose connection as I notice it does run pretty hot sometimes, cleaned it out with compressed air and always make sure the fan area is not being blocked, I hope overall its an easy and or cheap fix as I am still looking for work, and having an external hard drive full of movies I cant watch is a pain in the backside ahahah

As pointed out above, does a headset work when plugged in and the speakers are not working? If the headset doesn't work its the sound card. If its the sound card turn on the subtitles.

Consider yourself lucky that you didn't buy 13 DV9000's like I did. At the time, I thought I was getting a great deal. Of the 13, 4 still work like they should, 2 need external cooling pads and the other 7 are paperweights. Thanks HP.
The best you're gonna do is get an external cooling pad and wait for the day when that won't work anymore.

yeah no sound even with a headset, and as the sound card is connected to the motherboard I believe I may be poop out of luck ahahah, and I considered the subtitle thing, just not the same, I have heard of this new rage in movies called talkies ahahah

if it is the sound card, how much would I be looking at to get it fixed, or at the cost would it be pointless considering how old my laptop is now?

With the design flaw, you'd be setting yourself up for the same problem later. I'm just gonna wait until mine dies and replace it.

I was thinking of this as more of a temporary fix and looking into a new laptop down the line that is not prone to this problem, I might be going to canada in march, not to sure yet, but if I did a new laptop would be in order and if I can fix this just to watch movies on occasion I would be happy
