NYE in valpa/vina

Postby dw88 » Sat Nov 26, 2011 11:20 pm

Hi all,

My gf and I are looking at heading down to vina del mar or valparaiso for new year's eve this year, is there a general opinion for which area would be better? We realise we're a bit late on the organisation front and most of the hotels on the coast are all booked out, would it still be possible to find somewhere to stay in a decent location? I presume that somewhere as close the beach as possible is where we should be aiming to stay?

See if you can get bus tickets first. Don't try to get a bus on the 31st as they will all be packed and the trip will take twice as long as normal. As for lodging, just troll through hostels and hotels until you find one with room. Some want a 2-3 day minimum over NYE but you might still find somewhere. Then just walk toward the coast or a mirador to see the fireworks. They set them off all along the coast, so Viña, Renaca or Concon are other options.

i tried a couple of hostels a couple of weeks ago for private rooms, most have gone........

You can probably still find shared rooms.....

www.booking.com

I use these sites search engines, then use google to find the direct contact details and make the reservation directly.....

not everywhere is on booking sites. I had a look at a couple I know but they want 2 night minimum for around CLP$140,000. The other option is choose a different hill from the traditional touristy Concepción or Alegre.

The Alecon, which receives decent reviews, has the usual high prices for NYE but does mention the possibility of arranging a home stay for those who can't afford the prices. It is a decent hostal/B&B and you might want to take a chance on the home stay.

I would follow any booking with a phone call.
