I only raced (formal, professional races) in North America. We were filmed for the "On Any Sunday" series. However, I wore the Belstaffs and Barbours in those days in my work, which for a while involved testing motorbikes and accessories. Tried to get the company to import and distribute Belstaffs but in the end they adopted some cheaper substitute.

That is me at right in the image, with a 650cc bike that beat all the 750s and most of the open-class bikes as well. If you had read the enthusiast magazines in the 1970s you would have seen us. Just war-stories now.

Nothing to do with OP but it may give you nosebleed anyway. Since we were talking about Isle of Man and races in that part of the world, here is some video from the TT races. Never raced there. Closest was Laguna Seca and that is no comparison. Two lads killed in front of me in my first race at Laguna Seca. Always remember one of them. He also used to live in Vancouver. I think 1979 was my last race.

Very funny, Dr. Fishboy. Don't you think the effect of having to carry heavy equipment will also wear you out as much as the thin air?

Just drifting away a bit from the original subject, but I must say, great picture!!!
When was this?

Ok, we finally moved to Pisco Elqui and the village is at 1300m above sea level.
Of course I don't have a problem at 1300m but at some stage in the next few months I would love to cross
the little hills from this valley and the pass (paso agua negra) is at 4765m :-(
every time I think about the trip the altitute of the pass scares me.

Ontario Motor Speedway (which no longer exists) in about the year 1979. This was an endurance race, lasting 6 hours. Since we were running a 650 in the 750 class, we were a bit down on top speed, and we had to make up the difference through skill and daring. The faster bikes ran softer racing tyres and required a rear tyre change to go the full six hours. We did not do a wheel change but instead ran harder tyres which did not have quite the same grip in cornering and braking, which resulted in a bit of drifting and sliding. In the end we won by less than three minutes. We had a 6-hour average speed of over 130 km/hour (on a course with 20 or so turns) and a top speed on the banking of about 190 km/hr.

Mind you, Px does not do this sort of thing anymore.

Px is a most interesting fellow. Having a hubby who races bikes, lived 2 years in Stgo, 18 months in Kits and heading back now to our home in Oz, Px is informally invited for a BBQ and beer any time he happens to be in the area.

On the altitude sickness - can't help. Sorry. I don't seem to suffer at all and i'm an unfit 40 year old woman who happily tramped around above 4000 metres with only the vaguest headache. I did avoid most alcohol the nights before though  . As opposed to my friend who runs half-marathons who couldn't make 10 metres in Cusco without wanting to throw up.

Px also used to live in Kits, on Arbutus, across from the park.

Looking forward to seeing you someday in Oz
