They (I'm not a Chilean) were identified as being polite, generous in tipping, gives a lot of compliments and smiles when visiting a country.
Good for the Chileans! :)

People who think Chileans are good tourists have never met Chileans, but they write a great deal about them because travel guide books are mostly fiction. Chileans are actually the most niggardly and ungracious visitors ever to have purchased discount tickets. Chilean tourists are banned in most civilised countries because of their vile behaviour and atrocious manners. As young children, Chileans are taught to urinate on the walls of public buildings at least twice a day, which makes them well suited for travel in sub-Saharan Africa but not anywhere you'd take polite company. If you meet a Chilean tourist whilst traveling, check to make sure that you still have your wallet and then back away as quickly as possible.

LOL Px! The poor OP probably thinks you are being sarcastic.
We just arrived 2 weeks ago. On our 2nd day here, on a nice walk to a lovely nearby park in "posh" neighborhood (for Santiago), there was a mother and 2 children just ahead of us at the corner, waiting to cross the street. Well dressed and seemingly well behaved. Until the little boy whipped out his you know what and peed right there in front of us, on a bush. Mother never said a word.
Then we all crossed the street.
Welcome to Chile!

I've yelled at little kids for dropping candy wrappers in front of my inlaws home and received dirty looks from their mothers.
I've also heard Chileans travelling to Spain are treated terribly. Chileans are considered to be the great unwashed by Spaniards.
A friends daughter and boyfriend came to NYC for a vacation. The boyfriend, who's father owns a small business in Coronel, "introduced himself" to hotel management as the son of a businessman. They also requested additional help in the room with laundry, etc. for which they were willing to pay an additional ten dollars per day.
Needless to say, they did not enjoy their stay.
My wifes 30 year old cousin came to visit her 65 year old widowed aunt in NYC. She refused to make her own bed and if she was served something she never ate before (just about everything) she said she wasn't hungry.
She did like Cheesecake Factory, though.
Her aunt paid for everything.

I wonder whether the website the OP was reading was being sarcastic, yet the person did not recognise it as sarcasm.

I also saw the piece (I believe in the Sunday travel supplement of El Mercurio). If my recollection doesn't betray me it wasn't meant saracastic, just very bad journalism (there was literally one person in the sample of Chilean best tourists, and the journalist had spoken to somebody who had heard of somebody who actually met this outstanding tourist).
