Why is it impossible to find an apartment?

Postby brian.usa » Tue Nov 22, 2011 4:15 pm

I just have to rant because maybe I'm missing something but I'm having an impossible time finding apartments here in Santiago.

All I want is an apartment that has a parking space, 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom and a balcony. It can be in either Vitacura, Providencia, Ñuñoa or Santiago centro. I've found over 30 apartments and half of them don't answer their phones nor return the calls! How does anyone do business here?! I also don't understand why people list the apartment on the internet if there not ready to rent it (disponible enero/feb...but it's november now!)...or why do they still leave the listings up even though they rented it "months ago"?

30 phone calls and I only have 2 meetings to see apartments but they can't show me them today, or tomorrow...I have to wait until Friday.

Come to Antofagasta. Saw three places, chose one, moved in after a slightly stressy Monday afternoon getting things notarised.
Needless to say, we are paying twice the rate of everywhere in Chile and the windows don't really fit, but it is quite lovely.

Had the same issue. We needed something 4 BR (with 3 kids) + service BR. At the end virtually every ad for an apartment (which was still available) was actually for 3 BR (+ service BR). As we wanted a separate study and family room, we ended up buying, although I generally prefer renting.

We found a lovely apartment in Vitacura (3 bedrooms, 3 bath) with large patio on the uppermost floor. We used Engel & Volkers, the real estate brokers. You should try to contact them.

My friend told me today that if you filter your search on the main RE website here, choosing "Codigo" instead of price or size, then you will see the newest listings first. HTH.
