I've got a couple of cool pics that might be the light of Venus reflecting off of marsh gas or it could just be a weatherballoon that travels at Mach 2, I'm not really sure what it is but they can have a copy of the pic.

Marsh gas was an idea by the late J Allen Hynek dreamed for the us military to help explain away the true existance of UFO's.
Later Hynek discovered that some UFO's are indeed real and started his own research group, The Center For UFO Studies.
For those who are not aquainted with Dr. Hyneks' work, there is a ton of information on him as an eminent astronomer of his time,
his passing was a great loss for all who study his passion, UFO's or ovni"s.

UFO as you know stands for unidentified flying object, not aliens.
UFO's are military related. Very highly developed technology even in the 40's. The pilots who report these sightings - even Air Force - are not privy to top secret military developments and experimentation. That's a very closed circle. Stealth tech is a good example and once made known, sure explained a lot of previous "sightings".
All the evidence points to extremely advanced military operations, which can introduce it's own conspiracy theories.
People don't seem to comprehend how monstrously huge the military industrial complex is worldwide, particularly in the US, and the enormous investment into R&D.

Sure, we could post links pro and con "aliens are real" all day long. I prefer to stay focused on sources with objective analysis.

I do understand why people choose to believe in the alien concept. I'm just not one of them.

I buy there are aliens. Not in in a tin foil hat sense, but more in the statistical probability sense. Hell, we exist, why not aliens? Are they on earth is a different issue.

This forum should be proof that spontaneous semi-intelligent behavior is possible anywhere. I am sure some place on the other side of the Universe, there is some alien posting to an alien expat forum "you know you have been on planet X too long when....".

I mostly agree with you Cal. So. As you seem to know, the Germans had this or simular ability in the 30's. It is a large leep fom lights in the sky to
blood sucking aliens. It never hurts to be skeptical, I also don't buy into at least 90% of what is out there on this hotly debated topic.
I do have friends who have worked on some flying contrivences that most would think originated from an off planet source. In defence of some "believers"
in 1897 people from the US and Euorpe reported to the news many "airships" moving about much too fast to be any kind of lighter than air craft.

I believe the Philosopher David Hume was the first to say that, and I believe it is from the "Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion" (proofs for God's existence), but someone else might have beat him to it. I have heard it attributed to all kinds of funky new wave want to be philosophers that were not that old or orginal, but Hume is the earliest one I ever encountered that used it.

Not sure, but I think Descartes also said something along those lines in the Meditations, and as Hume had a thing for him, it would make sense that is where it originated from.

Why I don't believe in Aliens is this : No sooner had we on earth started going up, we then had tales of other beings coming down; far far too coincidental for me, as if any two civilisations galaxies / universes light years apart would develop at something akin to the same time-frame and do similar things with those developments. Also, and I think I am ripping off Arthur C when I say this, but I am sure he won't mind wherever he is now, if there are aliens and their technology is far, far superior, then we'd surely have had far more compelling evidence by now. I appreciate one could also argue 'they might be shy', but I can't accept that. One other comic clue as to why most stories are either lies, jokes or delusions is this repeated tale of anal probing! Why that of all things?! Why not 'they inserted a probe up my nostrils, or put me through some sort of super-cat scanner, but no, anal probing of Mexican farmers, again and again and again!

There is a great show by Pen and Teller called "bullshit" about aliens and alien abductions. Seek it on youtube and watch it. It is hilarious.

Also remember there are aliens and there are illigal aliens (lib. "undocumented citizens") !

I was once an alien, but that was a long time ago.
