Regarding rotating tourist visa: my bud EEUU did visa runs for MORE THAN 10 YEARS without a problem.

The “I have big bucks” and want to live in Chile “Investor Visa” is stupid and a pain to deal with.

The easy way is start a business and give yourself a contract (well the business gives you the contract) to work in it. Easy to start the business and easy to work “subject to contract”.

A friend setup an Executive English School targeting Engineers and the “School” gave him a contract to work there.

It seems the only options for those not getting the investment or retirement visa are the professional visa (and the long process of getting diplomas legalized in the US) or the work visa. Of course, who really knows if this is true b/c it seems the rules change according to who you talk to at the gobernación. If anyone knows anything different, please share.

Never heard of a nonprofessional visa :?: :?: And all the visa rules are clearly laid out on the Extranjería website so I don't understand the confusion. One option is to get married to a Chilean and apply for the Marriage/Family Visa. TE-10 reqs still apply though. Or wait till they have another (Peruvian nana) amnesty and apply  .

There are different types of temporary visas with different paperwork. I'm referring to the TE-8: VISA DE RESIDENCIA TEMPORARIA PARA PROFESIONALES, TECNICO, NO PROFESIONALES, REMUNERADO EN EL EXTERIOR, PERIODISTAS O CORRESPONSALES DE MEDIOS DE COMUNICACION. The nonprofessional visa is the easiest to get if you have two job contracts. The professional visa is a pain b/c it requires the legalized foreign diploma plus one job contract. I was told twice in the gobernación in Arica that they won't issue the nonprofessional temporary visa, even with 2 contracts.
So yes, basically marriage is the easiest option it seems

I don't have time to get in to this, but would caution all readers that much of what is in this thread is wrong to simply misunderstood (including quotes of my own writings on the forum).

Why?

Because half of what officials at immigration say is wrong. We constantly have to file petions because the officials at immigration have no clue about what or how to apply the immigration law.

Absolutly agree
You ask 10 different officers and obtain 10 different answers
You ask the same officer 3 times at different days and they give you 3 different answers
This include those who take decisions so, the chance or the mood of the officer in the moment to decide is a factor to consider. Most of their decisions are not subject to appeal
The good news is that they use common sense sometimes, and many "customary" procedures are applied, because the law is not completly clear and it is subjet to discretional criteria

You can walk in with the same paper that was refused 4-5 days before (never the next day, their memories are that long) and they look at it stamp it and smile as you go on your merry way, or you let your Lawyers beautiful junior do it for you the first time.
