So, really, I don't think it's that big of a deal when somebody screws up in construction. It's a dirty business through-and-through. Which is a large part of why I changed my career.

Come to southern Chile and avoid the speculation. See for yourself what we are talking about. Making assumptions from 15,000 km away is no way to get to know this country, whether it's construction or dog-shit or noise or filthy air.

yea, first rule of Chile is do not assume anything. Thus, why American companies from star bucks and wall mart to major power companies, all get their rears handed to them in Chile. They assume they know how to do business in Chile because they know how to do business in the rest of Latin America and the World.

.
Speaking of copper, what happens to copper and Chile's economy when the greenies get their wish for sustainable (negative) growth and major cuts in demand for copper, and a parallel shift internationally to domestic 440-volt 100Hz power standard that reduces the demand for copper for related new conductors by 60 percent? I mean besides more electrical fires in Chile because they can't do proper wiring here.

440 volts @100hz?
What will that cost in terms of resources and pollution to manufacture a new power production and distribution system replacement of all applicances and electricity using devices, let alone money to retrofit the world? That's nuts.
Think of the auto. More fuel is consumed in the production of an efficient auto then it ever uses. There is no net savings once all factors are considered.

Likewise, when you consider bicycles in the US, the energy expended and pollution effects added in manufacture/distribution/use, greatly exceed any possible offsets as a substitution for auto use. But the greenies can feel good because the majority of the additional contamination takes place in other countries where the bicycles are manufactured.

When I am king, we will use 440 VAC 100 Hz systems with aluminum conductors, and we will do it right this time. Except in Chile, where nothing is ever done right the first time. Or the second or the third or... (n-times).

The changeover can be evolutionary, and during the transition period you can have dual-voltage houses and devices. But the payoff over time is enormous, esp in North America where that dumb old 120 VAC 60 Hz standard is still used. What a massive waste of excess copper in their conductors.

And we will prohibit the use of toilet-paper worldwide as a measure to save Chilean forests.

No worries about demand. When I left the USA in September I drove through several miles of darkness on I95 thanks to copper thieves. Now Patagoniax as king of Chile, that is a thread onto itself.
We agree to disagree.
