The issue wasn't with the eventual linked matter, but with the link itself. I think it borders on the what the admin has not wanted people to do. It was more of a heads up or a suggestion than an ultimatum. Being relevant to the topic isn't really how things are done here are they?

So I suggest that you put in the actual url.

I get it was a suggestion by the "I think" part, but you precisely remarked it's removal by virtue of not being relevant to the topic. So, it's sort of a contradiction what you're saying now. And when you said fix them, it wasn't clear enough to mean that they ought to be full links or be relevant, or anything because fix per se means whatever one can imagine depending on the context, so ultimately I got a bad impression.

admin wrote:yea, next time use the full link. The tiny urls are a form of link cloaking. We want users to know exactly where a link is taking them. For example, that url would indicate to someone they are going to goo.gl, but in fact are being redirected to Amazon.

Links fixed.

Yes I was a little vague on the original post, I probably should have expounded on the suggestion.

But unfortunately, your fix doesn't seem to be what you really needed to do. I believe that is what the Admin does not want people to do.

He can yea or nay that.

Enter the full url like this:

http://www.amazon.com/Shore-Thing-Nicol ... 1451623747

So people can see where the link is going.

Now that the links are fixed and everyone is happy once more, a brief digression relating to the original topic... the War Nerd, http://exiledonline.com/cat/war-nerd, writes occasional articles about the American Civil War, mostly about specific battles or people involved. I don't pay a whole lot of attention to those particular ones, but he has an interesting, non-conformist, take on war in general and writes well. Might be worth looking at.
You are disturbing me. I am picking mushrooms.

Thanks for the Link, Frank, I'm checking it out now. The latest article is on the little talked about civil war hero Ben Grierson, an "actual American hero". Very interesting.

Your original post was indeed vague in the fix issue, but conspicuously was written with an intention you later retracted ("Being relevant to the topic isn't really how things are done here are they?"). I know how to read, and I didn't misunderstood that: It was clear to me you treated my post as irrelevant ("...or erase it. It did not bring up something relevant to the topic"), and the truth is it is irrelevant, however if you're playing superman, play it right, with justice to everybody, not just me.

FULL LINK QUESTION: The use of url tag of the bbcode forum is frowned upon also? because it's not link cloaking using it, when you hold your mouse over the link it shows in the address bar the full address, opposed to when using url shorteners that shows nothing.

I wasn't singling you out because your post was irrelevant. Many posts are and I also have posted irrelevant posts to a thread. So I am guilty of it too. What I didn't do was to leave the  at the end of the original post. So I did not retract anything in my follow up post, I was clarifying things. I wasn't saying erase your post, but to erase your link if you weren't going to fix it. Admin has band someone who refused to fix or remove a similar type of link. Recently if I remember correctly. And I am glad that you can read. It is too bad that you read more in my reply than there actually was.

You aren't MarkF are you? Say it isn't so. Your tirade was mildly amusing.

Superman indeed. Superman would have deleted your post.

FULL LINK ISSUE: The problem is that many people don't hover their mouse over the link, they just click.

Here is a relevant link to the thread topic.

Like I said before, I have made irrelevant posts too. So how could I rightly call you on an irrelevant post when I have done the same thing. You act like it was a personal attack. It was the link itself. But you are right, how could you tell what I meant in my initial post when I didn't specifically say what I meant. My fault, sorry. But I did try to clarify that in the subsequent post. I can't refute your logic, without the link you wouldn't have a post. But it really was the linking and not the link. In the future I will let the admin give the proper warning about any linking issues since it is his house.
