Postby guat0n » Thu Oct 06, 2011 1:04 pm

in your opinion which non-catholics/religious schools (elementary/liceo) are recognized as "academically good" in santiago and/or valpo?...i know that "academically good" is such an open concept and full of variables and what nots but what i want is to get some references so i can start doing my research...

any help/pointers/comments are greatly appreciated...

One possible approach -

SIMCE website to select for performance by region and comuna

http://www.simce.cl/#

SIMCE is the agency that measures quality factors in CL education.

Sample outcome for filtering for metro region and Ñuñoa comuna for 8o básico (just an example - not a suggestion)

http://www.simce.cl/hsimple/index.php?id=221

then apply your other criteria for nonreligious etc

"Part pag" tag refers to "particular pagada" or purely private without state subsidy.

Clicking on the link with the school name will give you another page with details on the school

Other approach for background on the quality measurement system. Naturally you must understand the language of the realm

These are the English School in Chile, they tend to be secular and I can vouch for The Grange, which is not any more religious than most English schools.

Check the school against the PSU standing list, these are the mandatory finial year exams used for University placement (well most years this year some students didn’t finish classes so can’t write the exams I am told, but this has been an abnormal year). A high standing may mean a higher level of teaching, or they students just show up more often, or the parent pay more so they make sure the kids are in school.
