My all time favorite was the attempt to upgrade to 10 mb a second on the edge of Temuco. I knew we were pushing the edge of ADSL distance from the switch downtown (like 7 km as the lines fly), but we had very few others around us on the same dsl lines.
We have 4 mb a second without a problem for 2 years.
Call center in Santiago tells us we can in our area, and they are sending the guy out to do something.
Telefonica sends technician. I stand over his shoulder as he does the test (which is just fine, and highly suspect he had no idea how to read what he was looking at), and he then declares that not only are we unable to get 10 mb a second but that he is now going to downgrade us to 1 mb line because the quality is too low in that area (translated we don't want to do any service calls in this part of town).
Which got a 'ARE YOU FRIGEN KIDDING ME' from both my wife and myself.
My wife promptly gets on the phone with Santiago, and the guy is on his phone to the Santiago office, and he starts arguing with the main office (even they could see we have had 4 mb without a problem for years in the records). Finally, we had to sign a waver to not to call for technical support if we had a problem with the connection (would not dream of calling them), but he would leave it at 4 mb a second.
