GPS software for Garmin nuvi

Postby 4heid » Sat Oct 01, 2011 10:34 pm

I found this site, http://www.travelbygps.com/premium/chile/torres.php , and although pricey it seems like a legit routable map for Garmins.
Has anyone used it?

Looks like they were marketing it for Torres del Paine use. Why would anyone need it, if just going to the park? The park is well signed and you are obligated to remain on the marked trails.

Besides, the advertising is hokey: " High alpine meadows with crystal clear water," when they should say Andean meadows and glacial milk mixed with giardia and E coli.

If it might be used for the rest of the country, it might be interesting to see if they used the IGM database, which has some holes in it.

My past experience with Garmin GPS maps of this region ( I live near Torres del Paine) turned up some pretty serious errors. It would take some work to convince me that Garmin has done their homework.

i thought the same at first but the screenshots at the bottom show other areas. I also have something I downloaded from someone that has Chilean maps and the streets of Santiago but it seems hard to find someone that has something legit that works.
In any case their screenshots look professional, just looking for clarification before spending that much.
It is confusing how they have it written.

thanks guys, to clarify again, i am looking for Garmin routable maps for all of chile, this site confuses Torres del Paine as being part of or the only focus of their software based on the info at the bottom.

1. buy it from the people who make it....

http://www.garmin.cl/nt.html

there is a list of stores there, buying from a 3rd party is asking for trouble.

2. there is no complete map of chile, it will be along time until that happens especially if the government isnt behind it..

3. Maps in santiago are often wrong thanks to the idiots who dont know how to drive a car re rourting the directions all the time,

I use ndrive chile i paid $50 for the software installed on my android phone, it works good enough, but i use it kinda as a map that follows me than a GPS that i obey!

good luck

p.d its not a garmin oficial map, its a map made by the garmin reseller in santiago....

I did the same. We drove from Santiago to Hornopiren -and everything in between- with no problems at all. I think I paid around 49.000 pesos. It really surprised me the accuracy of the map.
