Its not the milk that´s the problem, its the amount of fat that Bresler, Nestle etc. put in to bulk out their products that make it nasty.

Grana Padano is always available in Unimarc, so is Gorgonzola, St Agur and others. You can get most of those at Jumbo too, by the way.

I'm living in Rancagua and the Jumbo here has two freezer rows of icecream... I've enjoyed all the ones I've tried so far. We also have a really good icecream place called Klaus here. So I'm sure you should be able to find good icecream.

I've seen photo proof of fresh milk around both La Serena and San Felipe, though have yet to encounter any fresh milk in Valdivia. zer0nz, I'd love any leads or tips you have around finding some fresh milk!

To clarify a bit a previous poster's comments, UHT and pasteurization are not different things, and whether pasteurization is always necessary is a matter of debate (some additional health and flavor components exist in raw milk, though it's only worth exploring if the milk comes from a known good, sanitary, source.) UHT is a pasteurization method, and is unfortunately the method of choice in Chile. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UHT. I'm not looking for raw milk, though would love to find some fresh, real milk coming from a glass bottle reminiscent of the Strauss milk from California, and am hoping to plant the seed of a business idea for anyone who may be so inclined...
