Importing clothing into Chile

Postby little_bex » Sat Sep 03, 2011 2:33 pm

Hi all

Ive been thinking for the last few years about importing some "specialist" clothing (i dont want to say what in case anyone steals my idea!) and selling it on in Chile.
Well, ive finally had enough of my job and im going to take the plunge. I have savings in the UK so im planning on buying my stock there and then shipping over.
1. Do i just need to create an EIRL to be able to do so?
2. Any particular licences needed to import?
3. To import, i need a pro-forma invoice - who writes that invoice? my supplier in the UK?
4. I assume the IVA i pay on the imports can be recovered?

Sorry if the questions seem basic...these are early days and im trying to fathom it all out!

Cheers

Dont bother didnt lose money, but didnt make lots we were importing from manufactures in china, the markup is there ont he product, but finding the right products the chileans like is hard, were left with alot of stock that we couldnt move, chileans are very picky, and finding stuff that fits a chileans big butt is hard, also everyone else is doing it

if you decide to do it,

You dont need any special licence, but you will need to declare in your GIRO that you are a improter or ropa to keep sii happy if you wnat to be "legit"

You will need a invoice or proforma from the supplier...... in the uk or where ever it comes from, you would be amazed as what you can pass off as a invoice for aduanas...... thats for shipments under $1000, over $1000 your paperwork needs to be a bit more complete and will need to contract a aduanas agent to help you.

yes you pay iva on the imports, yes you get it back if your a company, you will get a invoice from the freight company if under $1000 and from the aduanas agent if over $1000, you use this with sii to get the 19% back....

remember there are other taxes on imports you wont get back... usually around 6%+ some other percentages in import fees depending on where it comes from

good luck
Plan N....... Back On track
