Business Structures

From what I understand, Chile is ok with foreigners owning businesses in Chile. What kind of business structures are available? RL de CV(like LLC in the states)? SA de CV(like corporation in the states)?

What kind of fees(not including lawyer fees) to set a modest one up?

A lot really depends on what you want to do, but in general there are lots of foriegners running around with biz here in Chile. Chile is very friendly.

There is some analogy to most types of biz structures found in the States.

The cost for a simple one, in terms of fees to file papers and such, you should factor in about $500 US ( to start ). That would be your bare bones, not frills, just sufficent paperwork to get you in to trouble, kind of structure. There are really too many factors, and too many diffrent situations to consider. But its an idea of where things start.

Realy hire a lawyer to do it. It is also worth hiring a Tax lawyer to set up your tax strategy, and mabie talking to a labor attorney if you plan to hire people.

Lawyers are fairly cheap in Chile, compared to the trouble you might get yourself in to trying to do it yourself. It will help you sleep at night, rather than thinking about what you missed that you did not even know about.

Charles,

I know this is an old thread but...

Can you wife handle the things you mentioned... setting up a company, suggesting a tax strategy, and advise on labor issues? Is it feasible to do this for us even though we are in Santiago? Or do I need to find a local one? If so, can she suggest one?

Thanks,
John :alien:
