Opening a screenprinting and vinyl shop in Chile

Postby CWALLER » Mon Aug 01, 2011 12:40 pm

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong topic; please bare with me this is my first post. My wife and I have been wanting to move out of the USA for the past couple of years. We have been looking and narrowing down our options on where to go and what not. My wife, from Colombia, told me all about Chile and just the words described about Chile made me excited and ready to pack up and leave. So I checked into visiting Chile and we will be going in September during the Independence Day timeframe. I've been working with screenprinting (Tshirt design) and vinyl (stickers) work for about 6 years now and I was wanting to move a business to Chile. The main thing I would like to know is if a screenprinting and vinyl business would do well there. As far as I know, the economy in Chile is WAY better than the US's and made me think that a business like this one would do better in Chile anyway. I was just wondering if I could collect some people's opinions and thoughts on opening a screenprinting business in Chile. Would it be very sucessful? Thanks!

give up,

every second person is doing this, and the margins are too low to make a fortune,

if you wanted to setup a big shop you would need to attract corporate clients, and that would involve very good networking skills,
Plan N....... Back On track

There are many little shops over by the Vega that do everything from classic silkscreen to one off computer printed T Shirts. Now a embroidery shop to do polo shirts and ball caps, higher end stuff may work, we had to send out of the country for a run of 40 shirts with our symbol.

No, why give up before even cheching it out, I know people that make a living out of it, but as ser0nz points out, probably you need to find clients.
Maybe you find your niche, good luck

Thanks for the quick responses. It's better to know the truth rather than having to go there and learn the hard way. Whenever I visit I will look more into it. Hopefully there will be something that I can provide more than other people can. Thanks!
