SalvoConducto - help!!!

Postby fadgaget » Wed Jul 27, 2011 6:04 pm

Hi everyone!

So here's my situation....

I'm currently renting a room and my roommate's parents are the owners but don't live near here. I'm in Providencia but they live on the far outskirts of La Florida and are senior citizens. They NEVER come around.

Recently, my roomie left the apartment (without telling me nor responding to any of my phonecalls!) for nearly a month due to personal drama and hasn't kept up with her bills at all, etc. In the meantime I found a new apartment and am VERY antsy to move and leave a very toxic situation.

Here is the problem:

I'm moving just a short 5 minute ride away and don't have many belongings (a bed, 11 small/medium sized boxes, small tv and 4 suitcases). The moving guy I talked to said he doesn't need a salvo conducto but recommended I get one. BUT, in order to get one I need the owner (my roomie's elderly parents) to write a letter stating that I've paid my rent/any bills they required. I rent a room, these people have been ridiculously irresponsible as it is, so I find it hard to think that they'll write me a letter that I can show the notary (along with my new rental contract for the new apartment). Meanwhile all the bills are due, everything is in her name (my roomie) and even if I go to Servipag to pay everything I'm still stuck paying for EVERYTHING including her half, which really REALLY sucks. And since I wont be moving til Aug. 14th, I can't afford to have the elecctricity shut off for non-payment.

What do I do?????? how do I get a salvoconducto when the people who would need to write a letter are not around????

help! :(

well, without the salvoconducto, I would say move in a couple small trips. The bed might be the only thing that gets the police to stop the truck, it is really when you have a whole house full of furniture that they are going to likely ask for one. People buy beds all the time without one.

As for the bills, if you need the electricity, you might have to bite the bullet and pay it. They are fairly snappy about cutting of the electricity in Chile.

As admin said, move the boxes over a couple of days, then the bed with a sales receipt in hand for the bed ;) say you bought it second hand if asked. When the s&$t hits the fan the roomie has her parents “the owners” to bail her out. As to non payment and losing the gas or electricity hope it is after you are gone.

If all else fails, abandon the bed. Hope your deposit wasn't too big.

I totally agree with all the responses. Be discreet, move your stuff a little at a time and no one will ever know. Next time be aware with those that you choose as a roomie!
Life's definitely good!

hi everyone!

thanks SO MUCH for responses! I really realllly appreciate it!!!

a few thoughts to add.....

- I think moving everything in little bits makes total sense, but I can't get into the new apartment til Aug. 14th, and I was hoping that Aug. 14th and after I'd NEVER have to come back to where I am now, so moving in bits isn't a reality unfortunately :( although.....mayyybe I could move things in bits to a friends house and then move things bit by bit from there?...*shrug*

- As for the bed, it's 2nd hand already and we just bought it randomly from a neighbor, no receipt for it. It's a shabby old bed....come to think of it, since you guys mentioned the bed being a sticky point, maybe I should consider selling it or leaving it and just using the air mattress til we get a new one in the new apartment. (totally just thought out loud!) .. :)

- As for having ended up living with this roomie, it actually wasn't my decision. I actually live together with my gf and she was already living here and my financial situation became tight so she offered for me to bunk with her, etc. Had I had much choice during that time, I would've NEVER chosen to live with this roommate. Right now, we're just antsy to leave here and never look back. Will be SO good once this is all over and we can rest in our new apartment!

Do you have a license? Or maybe a friend has one? Rent a large vehicle on the 14th and be done with it. Cover your stuff well and make it look like you are not moving.

This is easy, been there done that,

Find the dodgy flete signs pinned up around town, or take a number off a passing truck, call them, $25,000 all moved, no question asked 95% of the time,

go with them in the truck so you know your happy your stuff is secure,

if anyone asks, its flete, not mundanza

listo!

I would just move your stuff without a salvoconducto. If memory serves, I've never gotten ones, including my last move where I moved an entire apartment worth of stuff (and all the furniture, etc) in one fell swoop. I know you're supposed to get one, but so many people move without them, and you could say it is a partial move, or your house flooded or you just broke up with your partner, or whatever. I always kind of thought it was to stop people from breaking into houses and stealing everything. Shows what I know.

Good luck with the move, and I hope your next living situation is better!

interesting ideas!! We actually called a guy a friend recommended, he could care less about the salvo conducto, said it'd be 25,000. Just like you guys said....

Also, I want to make sure I understand correctly.....

The carabineros would be asking me questions if they see me moving stuff OUT of a house correct? Not once I get to the new place and move stuff IN?

Thanks again guys! all great advice!!

the biggest problem i have ever had was one of the consajes in my building, but the flete guy said nope this is just flete selling some old stuff off and he went away,

the new building or police wont care when you arrive at the new place, the hardest part is if you get pulled up mid move, just stick to the story you are moving some old stuff to storage as flete, not as moving house,

NO HABLO ESPAÑOL, works for me every time im pulled up!

In the very unlikely event that a carabinero might make an issue of an illegal move, without a salvoconducto, you do realise that the shipment could be impounded and all parties fined, don't you? Unlikely, but that is what the law provides. And I believe the maximum fine is only about 137,000 CLP, so it's not that outrageous.

It's unclear whether you can still do the salvoconducto application online. According to their website you can, once you are registered with your local paco shop. Thereafter you can use the Virtual Paco Shop. But I am not sure if this still works. In any event here is the website. If not with carabineros as in the past then with the notario.

I think I mentioned before that transporting other products in Chile sometimes requires carrying documentation on the vehicle. Down here, which is not where you live, if you are transporting sawn lumber or firewood, you are obligated to show either a receipt (boleta/factura) or the proper form for permission from the landowner where you harvested the firewood. People do get stopped, and that includes one of my carpenters.

Por lo que valga...
