Re: Teaching in Chile - Process?

Just talked to Bridge, and they require that the certification has to be done through them in order to get placed, help with visa etc.

The cost of the in-class Bridge program is almost 3k. So assuming she makes about 700/month that would take about 4.5 months to make the money back.

Would most of you recommend the Bridge route, as the most recognizable, and transferable certification.?

There are other institutes that don´t require the expensive certification process and pay ALOT better than $700 US (?) a month. Especially in Santiago. If you are planning to live elsewhere, perhaps the certification might help/be necessary. Good luck

caution on the Norteamericano front, insider news says they've been getting paid late and that someone might buy them out. I'd go for Británico at the moment over Norte.

If she wants to, your wife can teach private classes without ever setting foot in an institute, though I'd recommend studying something ELT-esque before setting foot in a classroom, just to keep her sane and on-point.

I live in the UK and want to obtain a TESL qualification, now hesitating between CELTA and CertTESOL. Which one is preferred in Chile?

I am also asking myself if it is worth the effort at all. I have been in the UK for 5 years, speak a decent English, but I am not a native speaker. What are my odds of finding a TESL job in Chile? (BTW: I have got a degree in International Relations and speak fluent Spanish, although I am not very familiar with the Chilean dialect.)
