go play outside wrote:There are few Guardian hacks in chile. Three, perhaps. Why don't you ask them what they charged? Seriously. It's a reasonable question.
Secondly, with the media banging down your door for the biggest news story of your life... on which they would profit... wouldn't you charge them?
Honestly?
I'm with gpo on this... I mean these guys were underground in near total darkness for over two months, and without realistic hope of rescue for half that time. Not having the AllChile Walter MItty charm myself, I don't know if I could sleep nights for a long time after that, much less deal with the publicity. Possibly everything, especially the Kawasaki in the kitchen, would maybe appear surreal? Although I have no doubt the real dyed in the wool AC denizens could deal with that plus being continuously waterboarded at the same time... and would of course emerge to become inspiring motivational speakers in worldwide demand...
I have the vague feeling that in another country the 33 would have been able to take advantage of some sort of insurance policy? Maybe something that they had paid into, or something that was imposed by the government on the mine owners.. or a combination.. whatever, it seems like a basic consideration, unlike "ah.. our laws were perfectly adequate, just our oversight wasn't up to scratch"

sorry, ministerio Golbourne, that doesn't quite cut it. As far as I'm concerned, anything the 33 can get out of the Chilean court system is 100% ok.
You are disturbing me. I am picking mushrooms.
