That's why they call it "La Serena."

Except in the summertime when you can´t get a decent night´s sleep in the Avda. del Mar thanks to the discos and Santiago flaites partying on the beach.

Another place to consider would be Vina del Mar. All the great amenities you would need for a family with children. No smog or pollution like Santiago. No protesters. Always a lot of foreigners around on vacation to meet & chat with. Always shows and events going on for both adults and children. (especially in the summer months)

Amenities include: Tons of great schools, restaurants, culture centers and theatres, museums, casino (plus horse racing track), beaches, cafes, discos, gyms, great medical & health facilities. Great shopping as well (Two malls in Vina and a third being built as we speak) Plus just a 3 min metro ride into Valparaiso should you feel like mixing it up. Also great weather, even the winters are mild.

Only 20 mins away from great wine country, also only an hour away from Santiago & the airport.

Just my two cents.

I would also recommend La Serena & Puerto Varas.

No worries - Viña will be mostly washed away in the next tsunami anyway.

thank god,

needs to be washed away so they can rebuild it with roads that let traffic move without having to go around the block 50 times because the one way street you wanted to go to goes the other way, but the whole thing take 2 hours because everyoneelse is just as lost and ends up in one big cluster f%&k,

im not a fan ov viña:)

LOL, so true. Kind of like Santiago on a miniature scale. The nice thing about living here is that you don't need a car. Everything is within walking distance. We only ever use our car when we leave Vina.
