Canada Day

Postby patagoniax » Fri Jul 01, 2011 3:01 pm

.
So many canucks here on the foro. Seems only just and fitting that we have a brief, vague, and passing recognition of Canada Day. Or Dominion Day as we old farts used to know it, when Commonwealth was not a dirty word. I made it back to BC this year. First time in a long time. Surprised they let me back in. The weeds have grown. Been gone so long I had almost forgotten what it was like to have every jelly jar and soup tin in official bilingualese, and where the decade-old wooden trail benches had yet to see their first graffito attack. O Canada: parfois, légèrement civilisé.

Jeeze, where in Tofino are you? I was walking the Wild Pacific Trail over in Ucluelet this afternoon. The sun almost came out.

I had to buy a new flag for the barn...$28. Looks good but they never last long with the wind in the Okanagan, probably even worse in Tofino!

What?! You're in Canada right now? And here? We're in Tofino proper...in-laws place in town. I'll PM you my cell...if you have time for a beer or two, it's on me! We're here until Sunday.

Hmmm, tried the PM thing but the message is sitting in my "outbox" and not the "sent" box. Not sure if that's right or not. I'm stealing a very weak signal from the neighbours so maybe the message didn't go through. Let me know if not and I'll try and send again.

A late but heartfelt "Happy Canada Day" to you, dear Canucks.
For what it's worth, we offered our Mass this evening for the good people of Canada - no matter where they reside.
