Well, it is, you just have to choose your Samaritan a little better next time. I know of plenty of examples on this forum where people who have never met each other have done favours for each other with no issues or negative repercussions.

This particular person is a freaking sociopath though (as CalSou said), what an utter scumbag.

There is a reason we take post count and date of joining the forum seriously. It is no guarantee that the person on the other end is for real, but it is a good indicator of their investment in the forum community and where they are coming from. Some one with a couple of dozen posts and a couple weeks or months on the forum, should obviously be a red flag. It is far from the only criteria, but it is a starting point.

In any case, this is an online forum. Keep it in mind.
