I consider this a better description:

Cuico

Actually I just use cuicoville to refer to the neighbourhood but as you know Px, one can earn a lot of money in Chile, live in the best of neighbourhoods and not be cuico. I also know cuicuinos in Maipu that don't make much and yet are. To me cuico is more of an attitude. I just call Vitacura Cuicoville cause it is where any self respecting cuico living in a cardboard box would aspire to live.

Um, I don't know about that. You kinda need the money along with the attitude to be cuico. Without the money, your in no way or form a cuico, your just an actor.

And I can assure you, you cannot be a cuico and live in Maipu. Ask any cuico from arriva and watch the response you get.

I agree.... But for the cuico wannabes one still uses the word disparagengly..... We sometimes call her cuica al peo....

Where I disagree with Px is where he says they are left of centre.....

I do agree.... In the strictest sense of the word, a cuico has money....... hence why I refer to La Dehesa as cuicoville even though of course not everyone with money is a cuico.....

And trust me..... I know people in Las Condes that earn a fraction of peoiple I know in Maipu. Which is not the same as saying that in general Maipu has a higher income distribution....

I'm lost but I'm assuming Cuico is a term used by the people to describe elitist/wannabe celebrities??

I'm definitely looking for good bang for the buck in a SAFE area, I'll take a look into the Las Condes area!

Well FINALLY got my offer a couple of days ago!!! I am just reviewing the terms etc. It looks like they will be providing a $4000 CDN/month living allowance. I want to know if it is doable to find a MODERN 3 bedroom apartment in the El Golf area for about $3,000 CDN per month = $1.4 million CLP. That way all my other expenses, i.e. food/entertainment/transit can be taken care of with the other $1000. So I don't actually have to touch my base salary. I am open to other areas of Las Condes.

Why Las Condes???.... El Golf is not the only area I am considering, it just seems to have all of #'s 1-4 below. If there are other areas within Las Condes that I should consider, please let me know. Our daughter is young (15 months at the moment).

1) Safe
2) My office is located beside Parc Aruaco shopping centre in las Condes
3) Subway line - I am moving there with my wife and child, and I want her to be able to get around easily
4) Vibrant area, where we can walk to shops/cafe's/restaurants etc.

Been living in the suburbs all my life, and want to experience that level of convenience.

I was originally thinking Vitacura, but that's too far off the subway line. If ANYONE knows of any relatively new buildings that I should take a look at, PLEASE message or post here, so I can make sure I check out those places on my next business trip before I make the move.

Thanks to all the wonderful members on this site, and once I move, I hope to contribute more to the forum, by providing information rather than just asking questions.

When you say 'the whole area is new'. Do you mean the El Golf area, OR that area of Las Condes, from the EL Golf subway stop to Los Dominicos? I am definitely going to look only when I get there, I just want to make sure I can guide the real-estate agent to NEWER condos. So any help on NEWER buildings would be great. I have used Portalinmobiliario, and looked for new projects that had 'immediate delivery'. I'm assuming that means that the building is already constructed and they are selling units, is that correct?

Fascinating discussion. A dream quest for the Beaches or the Danforth lifestyle, or going west, Kitsalano or Denman Street, only in Santiago. But I guess its not there. (tear gas, ouch).

Personally, i would consider the penthouse, or quarters in a small hotel in a good neighborhood.
Security is numero uno. To and from. Deluxe convenience, a complete staff. You might have to boost it from the stipend, but i'd consider it, if such was available. Provided the food was good, of course.
