My name is Pawel, I'm living in Canada but more and more thinking about moving to Chile as current geopolitics are sooo screwed. I used to live in Spain and used to speak fluent Spanish. Since didn't speak or talked to for 20 years, I forgot most of it, but understand good part of it. I figure, it would take me a couple of months to get my Spanish to a good level.
Anyways, for starters, if I want to move my family there (I'm IT specialist) how much money I should have to start my life there (considering being able to support my family for let say 18 months with no income).
How long is the process of paper work? Starting now, how long usually take by the time I get my foot in Chile? I was thinking about moving to Valparaiso. Is it a good place for IT industry?
In my opinion, Valpo isn´t a good place for any kind of work ; you had better think about Santiago. However as others have said when other potential expats have asked about work possibilities in Chile- ask yourself what you can offer that a Chilean can´t. There is no shortage of highly skilled professionals here except in the mining area. As far as how much you would need to support yourself and family for 18 months- you´d need a lot!! Chile is not cheap if you want to live in the same way as perhaps you do in Canada: my advice is think very very carefully before planning your move.
