Obviously I was not paying close enough attention. Scooped, serves me right! :o

And it goes back even earlier than that, at least to the 1960s for helicopters in SE Asia. But I think the Argies may have won the prize for large-scale aircraft defenestration during their Dirty War, 1976 to 1983.

Obviously, tossing people from doors and windows, whether from rotary-wing aircraft or from more humble terrestrial structures, goes waaaay back. It was already well established in Europe by the Middle Ages. In Prague they even do famous-defenestration re-enactments. Now, that is a cultural event.

Keyword: defenestrace. And oh what a splendid hijacking.

Ahhh, defenestration. Back in the good old days, circa 1929, Wall Streeters had the decency to kill themselves via The Jump. Admittedly, this was messy and therefore somewhat rude. Then came the FDR bank-insurance schemes, and on a similar theory, they now get bailouts instead of an incentive for a wee self-shove off the 30th floor. Pop the corks instead of the window latches. Progress(ive)?

That was because they recognised that what they had done was.... Immensely Wrong. Today, there is no such understanding.
