Wow, THANK YOU EVERYONE for your great advices and pointers. There's so much information here! I'd love to go and see San Pedro and Antofagasta some day when I can spare a week or more from work. They're such nice places if I only go for a weekend seem so wasted. Vina Santa Cruz seems like a good option for a weekend stay too. Still doing research on Andacollo, looks very viable for a long weekend trip.

Thanks zizzles for the link to Andacollo but for some reasons it doesn't take me to the lodging page when I click on it. But they have a link to Collowara and in english no less!

seawolf180, I don't have a smart phone I know, I know in these days who doesn't... but I have little need for a fancy phone and my work already provide me with a Blackberry.... I am, however, thinking about getting a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7" or the new Motorola Zoom. One of my friends has a Tab and bloody hell (please excuse my french) the night sky Apps sure look impressive. Got me so jealous and now I want my own . The days of carrying that little circle wheel of the night sky are limited!
