Re: What can I get with US$15,000 anywhere in Chile?

He's not looking for a house, he's looking for an apartment! A tiny new studio is doable for 20 palos in the many 25-store high-rises on the market or being built in Santiago proper (i.e. centro, not Puente Asalto). Should be structurally sound especially for post Feb 2010 projects, but expect issues after a while with things such as central heating. We looked at that market a few months ago but tabled any decision until 2012 when I think it's going to be more of a buyer's market.

Thanks for the positive notes and personal experiences hightower and otravers. I felt as I had found a few too many decent looking properties online to believe that none were real. Late 2012 or early 2013 was about the time I was looking to head down and rent for a few months while doing a search. Hopefully the buying opportunity otravers expects is there.

Hightower, I went to Luleå Sweden in 2009 for a few weeks. It was a nice little town but I'm not too sure about snow in the summer. haha

We have a property company with many properties in it (many are apartments), my Chilean partner started a boycott of the market 6 months ago until end of 2012 early 2013 when several thousand unsold units hit the market and she goes into the 5-6 year old building she likes and cherry picks at better prices (many investors will sell when they see the prices of new places undercutting the value they have in the older places), right now they are mid/high and normally new apartment buildings presales are 70-80% (we were buying into the other 20% over the last 10 years at unpublished cheap prices) these days presale is closer to 20% so there will be opportunity.
