Good guidance from both "old and jaded" males, JHyre and PdC. But I'm not so certain that the OP is on the track that they see: she entitled the thread "A little fling with Chile", showing that she's not anticipating anything serious or lasting.

May she enjoy her short stay in the Southern Cone.

Yep, agreed, good point RWS. Old & jades gets one in a "fatherly mode". Enjoy the fling, just watch your six, and tell us how the fling with Chile goes.

she entitled the thread "A little fling with Chile"
In the spirit of persnicketiness...

The OP is Anelii, she is having "a little fling with Chile" and comes across imo as well informed and level headed. Jules, another poster, is
Porque Chile? because it is amazing and I feel in love not only with my boyfriend but also the whole country of Chile
Father on.

Thankyou to everyone for their advice and friendship!

It's only 2 month's now until i arrive and i have already organised accommodation for my first month with a Chilean family in Valpo whilst i study a little Castellano and then who knows- isn't that the beauty of it? I would love to meet as many people as i can and will be in touch when i arrive in Chile. I have considered the dangers that come with living in Valpo and have considered Vina- yet again- another beauty of my adventure is that i can go wherever, whenever i please- and i have an inkling that i may be doing that- either way- will be in touch! Thankyou for all advice
xx

Hi Anneli,

I thought I would introduce myself on here as I'll be coming to Santiago in late July. I am a newly qualified English teacher and will be looking for work in Chile. I have a few possible contacts, but no concrete plans for how long I'll be staying.

It would be great to meet up with some of you guys for a drink to help me get the lowdown on Chilean life (I have v. limited Spanish).

I'm 26, enjoy music, sport and socialising.

let me know if you fancy meeting up, or if you can offer me any tips on finding work as an English teacher.

Muchos gracias.

Phil!

Sounds like we are in the same boat- have no plans as of yet, other than actively seeking work and tentative accommodation so lets keep in touch!

Hola Anneli,

We are an Australian family living in Valparaíso. My husband is an English as a second language teacher and we have been here since Feb 2011. We were repeatedly told that it would be a sinch to find work in Viña or Valpo. Things like "arh your a native speaker with qualifications, no worries". It has not been that easy. To work in a respected institute they require you to have a work visa. To get a work visa you need job contracts. On a happier note, he has work now and we have made loads of great friends here. If you're interested we have been keeping an up to date blog about our trip so far. Bueno suerte and I'm sure you'll love Valparaíso it's a wonderful place. harpersinchile.blogspot.com

Good luck and welcome to the foro.

I think that the moniker "why chile" is locally trademarked.... (insert grin)
