Whichever bar you use to gauge your financial success, can we agree that a small child (baby?) nearly getting hypothermia from sleeping with a dodgy guatera is below everyone's bar here? If one has access to internet, computers and international flight tickets, one should be able to provide a warm and safe bed for a small child, right?

If this is the standard of life your child is looking forward to here, then I agree with JH & PdQ (that felt weird typing!), get back to the USA, make enough money to have a decent life here, with access to basic necessities at the very least, and THEN come back to live your dream.

I love this post! I am completely in love with my chilean boyfriend of 4 months and I am a gringa who is graduating from a university in USA this may and then.....I'm moving to Vina del Mar to live with my boyfriend and hope to find a job teaching english or as an au pair if that doesnt work out. I would love to hear more about your final decision. I say do it! I think it will be very interesting to see where my boyfriend and I end up living for a longer period of time. Our plan thus far is he will be completing his masters degree next year and then he will be able to get his doctorate degree in USA so we can have a happy medium in our cultures....but its going to be his first time out of Chile adn i dont know howh he will like uSA...because he is very simple and I think madly in love with Chilean culture. :) as am I. But with a daughter involved...that takes away some amount of flexibility. BEST OF LUCK! id love to hear what you decide!
