Governments are the only institutions that force you to pay them to take a week to add sheets of paper to a document holder for $140, and yet still operate at a loss, when anybody else would do it for $5 in 2 minutes for a $4 profit.

Well, that's the beauty of this little adventure. I didn't choose Chile, but rather a former colleague (and now boss) chose me. It just so happened that he moved to Chile to launch his fund a year ago.

So... let's catch up shall we? Seems like yesterday. I made it! So those betting against should pay up.

April ??, 2011: Land the Airport. Turn left at customs. Pay my $100 reciprocity. Enter customs line. Get a tourist stamp. Chuckle at the folk who didn't read this forum and went straight to the customs line. Say to myself, "thanks forum for telling me about reciprocity fees."

April ??, 2011: Somehow, foreigners entering Chile on a tourist visa with their entire lives in 3 oversized bags (plus carry on) is an unusual occurrence. The Chilena at the scanner suspects I am up to something. I explain the situation in broken spanish and show her the armpit stains on the white undershirts in the first bag. She quickly directs me to the exit.

Success! Hello Chile!

The rest is rather uninteresting. Work, Paperwork, Lawyers, HR departments, etc... I did manage to find an apartment and sign a lease, which I still can't read (but hopeful in Rosetta Stone level 3 I will finally encounter the "Legal Documents" lesson)

... re "Opening a bank account" and/or "Finding an apartment": I'm no expert. I was silver spoon fed. Which begs the question... where can I find a "World's Best Boss" mug in downtown Santiago?

While I'm at it... Where can I find a "2 plazas" duvet cover. What am I supposed to do with a down duvet without a duvet cover? Word to the wise, don't buy naked bedding from HomeCenter... you'll have a hard time dressing it.

Spoon fed... beg the question... word to the wise... I can't wait to start learning the idioms of this newfound language.
